My message to my children if they ever do anything like that: Go to the police yourselves. They will go easier on you than me.

Yep. If my future children ever do something like that they'd better not come home. What thier father and I will do to them is far worse than anything they can imagine happening in prison. And if they do come home, they better bring the police with them because I'll need to be arrested for murder.

Just more BS associated with black inner city kids raised by single moms. Listen to her talk "I axed them". These kids have no chance to grow up and be productive members of society. When will black leaders (and not Bill Cosby, but the "reverands" Sharpton and Jackson) realize that the real enemy of the blacks in this country are the blacks themselves. But I do give her credit for turning the little pukes in.

And for the record, this is not "accountability". By the time you've called the cops, it's too late. This is a demand that other people in society provide the masculine discipline for a woman so incompetent that she can't contract the service privately (and lovingly).
I've mentioned it before: This is like the Army general who went crying to the committee when a boy made "bad touch"... Can you imagine such a person leading warriors in battle? Does such a person, or the system that rewards her, understand how authority really works?
People make fun of feminism for silly reasons. But we have to conclude that much of the enterprise has failed badly. Rather than teach young women to be strong & smart, to compete, and to fight with men at their own level, feminism has taught women to be children... To stay at home and weave princess fantasies in which the entire worlds seeks to provide emotional fulfillment... And in cases like this, to count on government to provide masculine muscle for the occasions (often violent, risky ones) when people's feelings might get hurt.
Here's the rule... Ready? Go:
There are no exceptions worth quibbling over.
Got it? OK.

To be clear: This is not "better late than never".

I'm quickly realizing my opinions frequently don't jibe with the majority on these boards (Good Lord, I'm Ben David!) ;-) I can't speak to what kind of mother she is the rest of the time since I don't know her. But I thought it was commendable that even after the fact she turned them in. Even the best, most attentive and grammatically correct parents in the world can still end up raising nasty irresponsible pieces of crud. I would think that the fact that she reported her own kids to the police was an indication that she was a good parent. You know how many well-heeled white parents who can say "ask" would balk at the idea of their kids being punished, let alone turn them in?

My parents are middle class, but they would have hauled us down to the police station in a hot second if we'd committed some crime, and they'd have made us pay restitution to the person we harmed.

I stole cigarettes once, I think I was 12. When my mom found out- it wasn't that day- I was hauled to the store and made to turn them over to the manager and it was left up to him to prosecute or not. Prior to leaving, both parents had a long talk about the illegality of it not to mention the wrongness, and that I may go to jail and there was nothing they could or would do about that. I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack. Heck if I stole again though.
My parents weren't shitty. Yet I did something bad anyway, and they made sure I suffered the consequences. She may be a shitty mom, but she does at least seem to be trying in what is probably the only way she can comprehend doing. A live-in dad married to mom is simply unknown and unimaginable to the inner city. Which is fundamentally wrong, but another topic.

Mine as well. There's no way I would have gotten away with that. Unfortunately nowadays that seems to be the exception. My partner teaches in high school, and he's appalled at how many parents will attempt to lie and cover up for their kids when they cut school or worse. I cut class, I got detention AND I was punished.
