It speaks to the degraded character of presidents since Washington's "I cannot tell a lie."

It seems like these relatives will almost have to be deported so it won't look like favoritism. Particularly the uncle since he already has a deport order and now appears to be have been caught committing another serious crime.

There other options... dumpster diving for identity thefty, bribing Government officials to get one...I am sure their are more.

I posted an article about this in a political forum that I participate in and you won't beleive how many sheeple actually think Obama's Uncle is being treated "unfairly". My flabber was gasted to say the least. I can't get over the hypocricy of it all. I already hated the Prez and his blind supporters but this sent me into a rage as hot as 10,000 fighter jet engines.

I'll admit to being a bit of a skeptic.
This Uncle has a had a "real" SSN for over 20 years.
Obama and His Mother, Stanley Ann,
have some "Questionable aspects" about their SSN's.
I am not a conspiracy theorist, but after the 14th, 15th or 27th,weird,inexplicable, or simply "I refuse to reveal that" thing,
I begin to be suspicious.

It is not that I am a crackpot.
Like anybody, I just want to know the truth.
Lies, Coverups, fishy stories, legalistic evasions,
all lead to an air of mistrust,
whether one is President or a romantic partner.
If the folks who so strongly support this fellow, had Boyfriends/Girlfriends with this many 'holes' in their backstory, Amy, Wendy, Ann, or Prudence would all advise caution, at the very least.

So his Uncle (an illegal alien) has an SSN and a Drivers Lic?
Many Mexicans in California have the same.
Lets deport him , and some of them,
and keep the ones who have completed their immigration paperwork.
A solid first sign, that they want to be here without breaking our laws, to begin with.

Apparently welfare workers in MA provided 'dummy' social security numbers to illegals so they could get benefits after Dukakis put out an executive order that forbade workers from asking about citizenship status. That then allowed them to get drivers licenses too.

Since Obama is following the Jimmy Carter trajectory, will we soon be seeing Onyango Beer?

In the grand scheme of things his uncles actions means nothing of Obama's bad actions. A does not equals B.

Through two things bother me.

One if this was George Bush Jrs Uncle or any other major Republican candidate - we would here tales and "see the apple does not fall far from the tree" analogies. The whole family would get painted with the same brush. But not Obama this will get ignored and some poor him routines.

Two, why are these family members not been handled by now. Come on Mr. President you have power and connections. I could totally understand (may hate your views) in you using those connections and back scratching to help your family. Use them, clean up your family tree a little. You may not love them or really care about them but do something.

I'm with John. Also? Didn't anyone vet these people? Didn't anyone think that they had to get a few ducks in a row to be president? Know how bad this looks? BAD.

But then these are hot button topics... after all if you make a big stink about it, you must be a racist anti-immigrant monster from the vast right-wing conspiracy, right?

Maybe he left them that way apurpose.

@John Bush did get painted with the family tree brush, although he wasn't like him at all. It was just that the brush was positive and the media helped in that situation just fine. Even the actual negative back story was minimized through the media - so what?

Wait! Every time he does something partially personally, he gets attacked, every connection that they can make, he should act. But in this case, it should be ok? You can't have it both ways - he has been attacked in the media. There was plenty of media coverage of the Christian church connection. There is coverage of his uncle - mainstream coverage. You may not think it's "enough", but it is covered.

And the anchor for the post is correct - how do you trust the media? But it's not specific to Obama. The media is biased - period - they paint whatever picture they want you to see. About ALL candidates. I thought Bush should've had some more of his negative background brought up. But I also realize that things are cyclical and after a high with Clinton, there would likely be a low with Bush. He and Obama administrations did and are exacerbating the problem.

Obama has been about the same on immigration as all of his predecessors, which is not good, but really folks, this is not much of a story.

my husband ran for congress in 2008. we had an aupair whose visa was running out during the campaign....but we needed her desperately because campaigning means, basically, that he was never home. knowing this, we did everything we could legally to extend her time with us until the election was over. our campaign team vetted everything everyone around us -- I find it so odd that the president's team didn't do the same.

He's deported more illegals than Bush has, even considering where he is now in this administration vs. eight years of Bush.

Well Patrick - I am not big fan of Bush Jr. either and I am not saying he should not be held to a standard. If he does mess up - go ahead and make fun or raise your voice.

I hate is the hypocrisy - George Bush Jr. opens a secret prison in Cuba - people scream and yell and try to change things to them for the better. Current president comes in who says he will fix that, nothing gets fixed (three years and counting) and all the yelling has died down to a low rumble. Where are those voices now? Why have they died down - nothing has changed oh sorry the president changed and he is more PC and acceptable to us.

Yes Obama is ridiculed by people but it is the size and context. In the end is most of the Obama's ridicule does not become mainstream. George Bushes Jrs niece, not daughters but niece gets arrested for underage drinking AND ,,, it becomes a page 3 news item and CNN will give us updates for a week on the whole thing. Pundits will say that the whole Bush family is like that - all drunks. Leno and Letterman will make a top ten list and jokes all about those drunk hicks the Bushes.

But Obamas uncle gets arrested for drunk driving and all that will happen is one news story is made, most mainstream media will gloss over it, sure as heck no jokes will be made late night about it, "wow what a black trash family folks, how many baby mommas did Obama's dad have? Haha but lets be serious.....". Ok maybe FOX news might make something out of it for a little while, but that is 1 versus hundreds more. But in the end this report will circulate on blogs and conservative related circles. Size and context.

Look at all the things and actions that mainstream ignores about Obama like his smoking. Bush Jr was a drunk and did drugs years ago. Still the media will bring it up again and again and again never mind it was years ago and he stopped and does not drink. But the media will go out of the way to avoid taking photos of Obama smoking and will say he is stopping/stopped and good for him. Yea I know smoking is not the same as drinking but why should one person be covered versus another.

Pure utter hypocrisy. If a person is good - tout em, but if they do shit - let him have it.

Two wrongs don't make a right. You don't get to excuse anyone because someone else did something. When you do, it's clear that you have an emotional bias preventing you from seeing clearly. You make an excuse for yourself.
