I think the one thing that resonated with me is the comparison between beauty contestants and the neo-hippies.
Maybe the jokes should be changed from blondes to neo-hippies.
Why did a hippy cross the road - he doesn't know either.
How do you drown a hippy? Put a scratch and sniff sticker at the bottom of a pool.

Who is paying for your apartment?
If you are laying occupying something then you can't leave. If you are laying siege, you can. Which is it?
When you have someone under siege you don't let the "enemy" leave their fortress until you "starve" them out or one side capitulates.
When you occupy -- you take away the use of the property from it's normal function until the occupiers are capitulated to or they take it back by force or "starve" out the occupiers.
These people have taken over an adjacent piece of property. They are inane, ignorant and foolish. Unfortunately the national media gives them legitimacy.

Here's an excellent article, I found the link on Lew Rockwell's blog: The Burning Platform
This isn't simply a radical left-wing movement, although I'm sure that there's plenty of that there. Noone is looking for handouts or benefits... in fact they're trying to stop them, for Wall Street. The meme that they're all jobless, dirty hippies who want handouts is a bunch of lies put forth by the MSM. They'd rather report that than answer the questions OWS raises.
There are plenty of kindred spirits in the Occupy movement, I can attest to a significant Ron Paul faction at Occupy Cincinnati.

My parents paid for my tuition -- instate at the University of Michigan, but if they weren't, I would have had to go to community college for a few years, as one of my old assistants did, and then work my way through two years of state college (and be prudent about which I chose). This is not ideal but it's not a tragedy.

I went to community college for two-years and transferred, which saved me a pile of money. I earned an anthropology degree, found myself unemployable, then eventually stumbled upon a career not remotely connected to my degree. But I never blamed anybody else for my choices.
The entitlement attitude of these occupiers (particularly those with degrees and student loans) doesn't surprise me in the least. My classes were filled with students who demanded As for shitty work and who became highly offended at any bit of criticism that came their way. And unfortunately, too many professors in my experience have enabled that attitude.

I find Howard Stern to be an excellent host, well-known for his scholarly works in both politics and finance, and completely free from any history of loading up his show with people he can make fun of for entertainment value.
The man is a serious intellectual and if anyone listens to his show please ignore the live sex, drunk midgets, and other distractions. They were put there by socialists to destroy Howard's image.
Incidentally, this goes to prove that pot smokers are idiots. Thus, people who want pot legal are idiots. Thus, libertarians are idiots.
And you don't want to be associated with idiots, do you?
Of course not. Now be a good puppy and follow the media's lead on the Occupy story.

That second lionk by Amy is a young woman who openly admits that there will be no jobs in her major when she graduates - and she's complaining to us?? How about complaining to her own stupidity for enrolling in a major where no jobs are freaking available! I swear, just because you go to college doesn't mean you have any brains.
My husband and I both went to community college, but our diplomas still say University of California on them. I don't really understand Amy's comment that this is not ideal. First, I saved $35,000 by going to CC. Second, I graduated with a very small student loan debt that I was able to pay back in five years. Less than some car loans. Third, I got the benefit of teachers who knew their field, but weren't pressed to research and publish, and thus turned their 300 student lectures over to student assistants to do the heavy lifting. If I could have done it, I would have chosen to get my BS from a community college.

Gog, good stuff.
I've been on a mostly-lefty blog in Seattle for a couple years. When Tea Party protests were taking place, they were always mocking them, typically by posting videos of people who were inarticulate (and, sometimes, flat-out stupid.) You can have idiots, and extremists, in any movement and dismissing the movement due to the idiots and extremists is a cheap shot.
Jim at October 18, 2011 12:57 PM
I just came across a sign from a Tea Party protest saying "Obama Supports Abortion, Sodomy, Socialism and the New World Order."
I thought Tea Partiers were for getting the government off people's backs? Do they want the goverment off people's backs but in people's uteruses and anuses?

Pretty good chance it's a leftist infiltrator. Go look up "Moby".
Cousin Dave at October 18, 2011 6:41 PM
Dave, why do think there's a "pretty good chance it's a leftist infiltrator"? You don't think Tea Party protests attracted anyone who was against socialism and the "new world order", and also opposed to abortion and homosexuality? Was there some procedure at Tea Party protests to screen out all people who were in favor of free markets and lower taxes, and were also religious/social conservatives?

I love history, and I'd have loved to have been born 100-150 yrs ago when anthropology was getting started as a real science, but the lack of any real anthropological jobs, aside from teaching history(and to americans at that is a fate worse then death), is why I dropped out of the program

I initially wanted to have a career in archaeology, but the dept chair said I'd be stuck as a shovel bum, so I focused on the cultural and physical, with the intention of getting a grad degree in med anthro or perhaps evolutionary. Real life got in the way and I found myself working clerical support for a voc rehab company while completing a second degree in tech writing (because we need yet another person trained to write unclear stereo assembling instructions). After a year and a half, I figured out I could do the work of a voc rehab counselor, so I started a 2.5 year internship and voila, my dreams of being an anthropologist are lying in the dust, but it's a fair exchange for a nice paycheck that, you know, pays the bills.
