I am currently 47 years old and do not take any regular meds. WHOOOHOOO! The side effects of most scare me more than what they supposedly help! That was a scary read.

Remember this question when you back the idea that recreational drugs should be allowed.

Because when pot gives people the munchies they're going to track you down and sit on them after going through an entire pan of brownies?

I'll be 54 next month and I take Nascobal (a Vitamin B concentrate) and extra vitamin D, along with my Citrical. And THAT'S IT. I fell through the attic floor at my mom's 2 weeks ago (just cleaning out my old crap); put one foot on a piece of plywood and the other through the insulation! Fell through up to my thigh, hit my left arm on one of the 2x4's in the wall and wrenched my left side a bit. Yes, I went to the ER (3 days later). All I took was Advil, all I really needed was Advil. They checked my urine for blood, there was none, ergo, no internal injuries. I'm almost back to normal, still just a twinge of pain in my upper left arm. Pass the brownies!

We benefit from the availability of an enormous number of safe, effective drugs; while not infallible, the FDA process is largely responsible for your ability to know Taft when you take a drug, it will do what it is supposed to, be manufactured safely, and probably not have serious side effects that are not disclosed to you. Should we year for the days of patent medicines? What would be the alternative of government regulation? The libertarian solution of "let the companies make what they want, and sort of the damage in court" seems fraught with more problems than the current system.

Sorry, "Taft" = "that". Autocorrect fun. Perhaps the ghost of Steve Jobs is mocking me.

"Because when pot gives people the munchies they're going to track you down and sit on them (sic) after going through an entire pan of brownies?"
No. Because when you buy pot from a licensed producer, you're going to want consumer protection from impurities.
Because when you buy cocaine from a licensed seller, you want assurances that the purity is correct so you don't harm yourself.
Unless, of course, your whole purpose was merely to do whatever drugs you can find, not anything responsible.
You already do this. People buy things at Whole Foods to avoid pesticide.
That's sort of the crux of the whole drug argument: responsible people care about what the things they do, do to them.

Be well Flynne!
