There's An Uptown Asshole Section At Occupy Wall Street
An Occupy Wall Street movement divided -- into upper and lowerclass, uptown elitists and downtown poors -- via The Daily Show:
..."It's a personal possession. I'm more against private property, not personal property."
Um...the difference?
Seriously?
Moron.
Can ONE of these people acquit the "movement" with some fucking sense?
Robert at November 18, 2011 11:47 PM
If it's yours and I want it, it's evil private property. If it's mine and I want to keep it, it's personal property.

Progressives are wonderfully generous with Other Peoples' Money.
Storm Saxon's Gall Bladder at November 19, 2011 4:55 AM
I thought you guys might like to hear a progressive's opinion on the occupy wall street thing.
They're all, clearly, fucking idiots. They're mad about something, but they don't know what it is. I'd bet over half of them aren't even mad, they only think it's cool to protest.
Look at the folks that Samantha Bee interviewed on the "other side of the tracks". They're half stoned and don't have a job because they're unemployable. Absolutely fucking unemployable. I think Samantha summed it up with the term "downwardly mobile".
I can see a value to their conversation-starting. Since they've started this nonsense, I've wound up in a lot of conversations about income inequality and shady financial vehicles that none of us understand. We all know there is something fucked up going on and it's good to have that conversation. However, it's so damned maddening for these fucking stoned hippies to be carrying the flag and defining for the nation what it is to be "progressive".
They're not progressive. They're fucking idiots.
What kills me is that every single time a reporter puts a microphone in front of one of these idiots, they say, "We just want our voices to be heard." Hey dip-shit, you have a microphone in front of your face. What the fuck is your voice saying? Apparently nothing.
I think that if Mayor Bloomberg went down there and said, "I have a magic wand. I will happily wave it and give you anything that you want if only you would go away. What is it that you want?" He would be met with dumbfounded silence.

It's one of those wacky Marxian distinctions, for those not familiar with the theory. "Personal property" is commodities and basic goods, which individuals get to own. "Private property" is resources, machinery, and anything else that might count as a means of production.
It's as hopelessly incoherent a theory as you might imagine - does my iPad, for example, flip back and forth between the two categories depending on whether I'm developing apps or playing Angry Birds? - but that's what this dude's trying to get at.

Leftism is intellectually bankrupt. That's why you can't get anything coherent out of OWS -- because they adhere to a philosophy that is fundamentally incoherent. Leftism attracts morons and intellectually lazy people because it doesn't require them to think, and charlatans because it makes it easy for them to dupe others.
Liberals and progressives need to rebuild their philosophy. They need to express what they're about, without references to socialism or other forms of leftism. Until then, people will continue to equate the two.

Ok, now show the Wall Streeter going to work past the camp carrying a "Get A Job" sign with 10% of the country unemployed and suffering from Wall Street's corruption and anti-American skullduggery.
Show the 84 year old woman in Seattle who got pepper-sprayed by the cops.
Show the 2-tour Iraqi war vet who got shot in the head and his skull fractured by the police tear gas canister in Oakland.
This is too fucking easy - picking out the fruitbars and putting them out front and center. Tell me that lie again about the liberal media.
I think, like any rational person, that these people making the news are shmucks. I also see the evidence that the financial community and corrupt government have fucked America.
Now let's all chuckle at the mohawk and pretend it's not a diversionary sight plopped in front of us to block the view of the unemployment line.
Gog_Magog_Carpet_Reclaimers at November 19, 2011 10:09 AM
Show the 84 year old that OWS pushed down the stairs.
Then why occupy a park and start a TB outbreak? Why not get the fuckers out of Congress that started the problem?
Oh yeah, they're all Democrats. Can't do that, it would break The Narrative.
Not possible. That's like asking a vegan to rebuild their philosophy to accept eating meat.
The whole point of the OWS marches is that they want other people's shit, and they don't want to work for it.

"There's An Uptown Asshole Section At Occupy Wall Street."
More like there's a Lazy, Largely Useless, Parasitic Section at Occupy Wall Street.
Then again, that's probably the majority.

Thanks Brian.
We needed someone to come along and miss the point of my post and go right back to following the media's spin on this story.

Why does the fact that they are "uptown" automatically make them assholes?

There are tenements all over New York, actually.

Again, why does being a rich upper east sider automatically make you an asshole? I mean, I get that NYC artists think that, but why do YOU think that?
NicoleK at November 20, 2011 12:42 AM
Similar sort of thing:
http://dailycaller.com/2011/11/17/patriotic-millionaires-demand-higher-taxes-but-unwilling-to-pay-up-video/
"WASHINGTON — Two dozen “patriotic millionaires” traveled to the Capitol on Wednesday to demand that Congress raise taxes on wealthy Americans.
The Daily Caller attended their press conference with an iPad, which displayed the Treasury Department’s donation page, to find out if any of the “patriotic millionaires” were willing to put their money where their mouth is"
Lobster at November 20, 2011 1:05 AM
Everyone already has "access to" technology products like iPads, so I guess that guy's problem is already solved. Idiots.
Lobster at November 20, 2011 1:14 AM
About the "patriotic millionaires":
Is it just me, or did none of them demonstrate the sort of leadership, karma, determination, charisma or whatever that suggests they actually earned their $$?
Radwaste at November 20, 2011 9:55 AM
"Again, why does being a rich upper east sider automatically make you an asshole? I mean, I get that NYC artists think that, but why do YOU think that?"
When they go downtown, pretend to be poor, and demand free stuff from the taxpayers, that's a pretty good reason.
Cousin Dave at November 20, 2011 6:01 PM
"Not possible. That's like asking a vegan to rebuild their philosophy to accept eating meat."
I don't know. Is there any hope for liberalism as an ongoing political influence? They made the huge mistake of getting into bed with the Left, and the Left predictably gave them the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am treatment, resulting in a lot of liberalism being discredited. And then the libertarians and neocons came along and pilfered their best remaining bits. Maybe liberalism's time has passed. You could be right.
Cousin Dave at November 20, 2011 6:08 PM
You can't possibly be serious with that question. The answer is "What's mine is mine, and what's yours is ours."
