Black Pirate On Black Friday
I love LA. Photo by Gregg Sutter.
Gregg to Pirate: Is there a story?
Pirate: There's always a story.
Gregg: Would it be okay if my girlfriend put this up on advicegoddess.com?
Pirate thinks for a moment: Sure.
Gregg to me: Normally, it's just Jesus walking down the street in this neck of the woods. (Fairfax area).
And he's not kidding -- we've seen him, and a guy dressed up like Elvis waiting for a bus.

He looks appropriately armed for an early morning foray into Walmart, or to seize a good parking spot at the mall. Everything is life is better when you dress up inna costume; have you noticed how many people in Dallas are dressed as cowboys? Pirates are the best.
Hey, can we back up a couple of days?
"we had encircled them, and they were trying to leave, and they were trying to clear a path. And so, we sat down, linked arms, and said that if they wanted to clear the path, they would have to go through us."

No, we can go to that entry and post there instead of turning the comments on this entry into an Occupy Wall Street entry. I don't have restrictions about posting on this site, but it's nice when people don't turn a fun entry I posted about a pirate into something else right off the bat.

Hi Amy,
The posted conversation got my curiosity up... What was the story? And was he part of Ren fair, SCA, etc?
Wondering,
Steven

Speaking of familiar-looking pirates.....
Just thought I'd mention that there's an exhibit that runs until March 4th at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington, Delaware, to celebrate the life of painter/writer Howard Pyle (1853-1911), who, according to Darrell Warren, influenced the character of Jack Sparrow. (In March, the exhibit moves to the Norman Rockwell Museum.)
More on Pyle's anniversary, if you like:

My brother once told me: "Everyone in L.A. is an actor, whether they realize it or not."

I tried to find that old post about dogs eating in Pasian cafes, but I couldn't....

I'd prefer Lucy in a pirate suit, I'd die if she also had an eye patch. Boy that Richard was some dude.

Why is a pirate never happy?

My new co-worker (who is turning out to be one of my favorite people ever) goes out pub crawling dressed as a pirate. She's a cute tiny blonde Captain Hook and her boyfriend is her first mate. They're darling together.
So apparently it's a thing.

I've wanted to do a comeback like that, on the street, my whole life: "There's always a story."
