Advice Goddess Radio: Anthropologist John Marshall Townsend On What Men Want/What Women Want
High praise from a male listener for this show: "(This) radio show was right on. It was like the Professor had been taking notes at our seduction forum. He actually gets it."

My guest was Syracuse anthropology professor Dr. John Marshall Townsend, author of the terrific book, What Women Want--What Men Want: Why the Sexes Still See Love and Commitment So Differently.
We dug into the research (like the hilarious study Townsend did showing pictures of men and women in Burger King uniforms or fancy dress. Of course, men didn't care where the girl worked; just whether she was hot. Of course, the women went for the homely guy in the blazer and the Rolex over the hot guy in the BK uniform). And we discussed what the research -- including Townsend's latest study on casual sex -- says about how we should approach love, dating, sex and relationships.
It's Advice Goddess Radio -- bringing you the best people from science...fascinating, fun professor and therapist guests who will nerd you out of your love, dating sex, and relationship problems.
Listen live every Sunday, 7-8 p.m. PT, 10-11 p.m. ET at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/amyalkon ...or download the podcast at the link ("play in your default player"). Call-in during the show: 347-326-9761 (NYC area code).
This coming Sunday, January 15, a not-to-be-missed show: My guests will be low-carb pioneers Dr. Michael Eades and Dr. Mary Dan Eades. They are two of the all-too-few out there who are behind evidence-based ways to eat -- dietary science as opposed to the "science" on which so many base their diet.
See the incredible results for one of my blog commenters here.
These two have changed the lives and improved the health of more of my readers -- in absolutely incredible ways. People who read their books, like "Protein Power," typically end up losing weight...and with ease...like the pounds are stones falling off a truck.
On the show, we'll talk about how to maintain a way of eating, and debunk a lot of widely held myths about diet -- myths many doctors still cling to.
If you have questions you'd like me to ask the Eades during the show, please post them below and I'll try to get to them or as many of them as I can.
I would still like Taubes to come up with recommendations for those that work out. High-protein, low carb is simply NOT going to work as a post workout meal.
No, I don't want to hear that the only exercise we should get is frantically waving our arms as we tell everyone, "You shouldn't work out! Exercise only makes you hungry."
Some people ride bikes for whatever reason. Some of us enjoy lifting weights. I'd also like to hear if the recommendations for a postworkout meal differs in any way from an aerobic workout v. an anaerobic workout.
We're primates, not slugs. We were designed to move. Stop telling us not to exercise and acknowledge that we need to.

Let's not generalize!
And I don't tell people not to exercise, and neither do any of the people I reference. What I've said is that I could not exercise, eating low-carb, and still remain thin. (Taubes wrote about exercise myths in NYMag: http://nymag.com/news/sports/38001/)
This weekend, at a dinner party, Mike Eades told a friend of mine that exercise is good for your brain and heart. And it is. And more, but I think I got us off on some other topic at that point.

Patrick, FWIW I've worked out with weights and followed a low carb diet for years without issue. While I'm not as fit as you, I'm quite muscular, and my body fat is less than 10%. I've got several other gym buddies who do the same without issue. I'm not quite sure why you have the problems you do with low carb.

@Patrick, the Eadeses co-wrote a book with Fred Hahn called Slow Burn. It's a strength training workout that's easy on your joints, but still challenging. You only need to do it once or twice a week.
A low carb diet isn't supposed to be a high protein diet, but an adequate protein diet. Low-carbers use fat for fuel. Personally, I'm not hungry after I work out, but I eat some bacon or almond butter after I come home from a dance club.
The criticism I've read of exercise is trying to use cardio workouts to lose weight. There have been several recent clinical studies showing it's not effective for weight loss. But strength training to build muscle and strengthen bones--yes.

Another to check out is Steve Platek, whose research on dopamine/brain pleasure centers I've referenced in the column. He's also a paleo fitness guy.

I recently bought Dr. Eades comfort book cookbook. They did say how to make low-carb breadcrumbs, but the recipe is way too much work. Can you ask him if he can recommend any actual brands of low-carb breadcrumbs that I can purchase?

@David, I don't know if this will suit your needs, but I use almond meal as a coating: roll your meat, zucchini, or whatever in coconut flour, dip in raw egg, roll in almond meal, and fry in butter or coconut oil. I don't use wheat at all--it's an appetite stimulant and may damage the guts of even non-celiacs.
Can you tell I'm looking forward to this interview?

Hey there, hopefully I'm not too late. I'm new to your show but I am a HUGE fan of Mr. and Mrs. Eades. I have lost right about 100 pounds using their program.
Can we listen to the show live at that blogtalkradio link?
And I certainly have lots of questions if you need any. :)

Oh, and best of all, they have these great Southern accents -- Mary Dan Eades more than Mike. It'll be a great show.

Also, I might mention that my father was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. It was full-on Metabolic Syndrome, triglycerides in the 700's and all that.
We put our faith in Protein Power and he is now healthy again and in recovery. He never had to take any meds and certainly no injections.
I knowing curing Type II diabetes is getting to be commonplace these days. But, when it happens in front of your eyes, it's pretty cool.
So, yeah, I love your guests. Give them a big kiss for me!
