Sucking On The Federal Hog
Tad DeHaven writes at Cato about how dependent state governments have become on federal subsidies:
They allow them to spend money taken from taxpayers across the country instead of having to ask their voters to pony up the funds. As the following charts shows, total state spending continued to increase during the economic downturn because the federal government picked up the slack. Note that the federal share of total state spending went from 25.7 percent in 2001 to 34.1 percent in 2011.
But, oopsy...those porkulus funds are running out, and it seems states may be notified of a crash subsidy diet they'll need to go on when the president's fiscal 2013 budget proposal is released on February 13th
What's the point of Obama's budget. The Senate haven't pass one in 2 years, and in all likelihood, we're not going to get one this year as well.

It's been closer to 1,000 days without the Senate passing a budget. I think the 1,000 day was earlier this week.
But this is why state-level legislation restricting TSA gropes will not actually happen.

You're all looking at this wrong. Imagine the Federal government is Bob. Your state is Jane. You are ______.
You need a new wide screen television for the Super Bowl. Jane kinda likes you, but doesn't have the money to give you, because wshe's broke too. So she asks her friend Bob to give her the money, because he has a color copier at home and starts cranking out $100 bills. He gives it to Jane, who then gives it to you. In return, you promise that some descendant of yours will pay Bob back in the future, or won't if he/she can't.
You got your tv, what more do you want?

"...when the president's fiscal 2013 budget proposal is released on February 13th..."
This is properly labeled "proposal", of course. It is the House's Constitutional duty to produce a budget and provide all funding.
Please tell your friends and neighbors that, in conversation polite and otherwise. You might know that, but judging by polls, etc., they don't.
