The Nancy Genovese Case
A number of people sent this to me, but the link, "Mother of 3 Arrested for Taking Pictures of Tourist Attraction at Airport," is from the woman's lawyers' website. Here's Snopes.

Ya gotta love the way the cops always raise the stakes on these cases. Not enough to arrest someone for taking pictures of public property. No, you've got to pile it on: possessing a firearm (true, she had a legally licensed firearm), acting erratically (she was limping, because she had hurt her leg).
Sort of like the favorite charge: "resisting arrest", which gets used sometimes even when there is no other charge.

Not surprised, after hearing about the kid who was arrested and forgotten about for 5 days. Our little tin-badge dictators think that they can do these things because they are above the law. Time to set them straight. Sue the hell outta them, and if that doesn't work, Tar, Feathers, dillweed powertripping asshat, some assembly required.

Are the collection of cops in the Suffolk County area so totally stupid?
Accusing a 50+ year old woman of terrorism? WTF drugs are they taking, cause I want some. Being that out of touch with reality is not normal.

Jim, I think once she tried to grab her memory card, it was ON.

Pretty much what she should have done is tried to get in her car and drive away. If she was under lawful detention, without the Miranda being read, she was not under lawful detention and has an instant case for the fifth. If she would continue to be detained, then the cop broke the Fifth for and Fourth for due process and right of search and seizure.
It sucks to have to force their hand, and the consequences, but if you know your rights, they have to argue it in court.

Cops facing complaints for excessive force need to drug tested.
I'll bet it would cause an uproar when the truth comes out.
