Welcome To ORomneycare
What's with these sillies who are all "Well, I'll be voting for Romney!"? Like he's going to do anything really meaningful as president, saving for looking really good in a suit.
Lew Rockwell posted an email from Ed Smith:
At a dinner party this past Friday evening, I was chatting with a physician friend, a family/primary care physician. I asked him how his practice has been faring under Romneycare and what he thought of Obamacare. He told me that since Romneycare came on board, he and his colleagues, in their office practice, can only hope to make ends meet on volume, scheduling five to ten minute routine appointments, twenty minutes for "serious cases," and annual physicals (which take fifteen minutes) booked up to six months in advance. From 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each day, he and his staff sit down to attend to paperwork.Has Romney care led to cost reductions and better care for patients, I asked him. No way, he told me. It's only been better for the insurance companies. What about Obamacare? He rolled his eyes. "We've been sold a bill of goods." He and his family live modestly. He's certainly not getting rich from his medical practice. His wife works to make ends meet. She's a nurse. At your office? I asked him. No, at one of the public clinics where she does better than she could do at his practice, "no fooling."

I totally agree with you Amy, completely.
What's done is done, for now, but can you imagine what the guy in the White House is going to do in the next four years when he doesnt have to worry about a re-election?
Besides, its very likely the funding wont be there since this "penalty-tax" (Hey, Patrick, I told you so.) has now a greatly de-incentivized people to purchase the insurance since it will no longer carry the same consequences for ignoring it (and the money will go to the government, not the insurance carriers/providers like the original bill was designed to do). Plus there are many states that will be opting out.
Their ponzy scheme is off to a very, very lousy start - too top heavy.
So how will these medical systems make money now that people aren't being forced to buy their product and yet these companies are now required to take on a whole lotta people with prior health conditions? Watch out....
Those health insurance companies and providers that were so supportive of this bill will wind up lobbying to have it defunded - those very same ones that were pushing to write this, even if publically they say otherwise. There is no money to be made unless they can force young and healthy people in the system to PAY. And if they can't force those people to participate, they must reduce the quality of care OR they increase premiums A LOT. Romney certainly wouldn't VETO anything reappealing this bill, or stand in the way of defunding it, but Obama would. And that is the issue right there....
But lets just say Obama is re-elected. WE had better hope and PRAY that there are enough congressional critters that will defund...BUT, BUT let's say they do....Obama has a nasty proclivity for issuing executive orders....
A President Romney wouldn't have the media pulling a blind eye on those. A republican president will be much weaker without the media and leftist crazies.
I am a big Gary Johnson fan. I am sending him money, but because the state I now live in will be up for grabs this November, I will probably vote Romney. I don't like it, but I just can't imagine what 4 more years of Obama would do to this country.
I mean, could it get any WORSE with Romney? I'm betting no.

I understand you think it is "silly", but allowing Obama the Dictator de facto to be re-elected on "principle" seems overly Quixotic to me.
I say this while still being an avid fan and true believer in Gary Johnson.
I will however, choose a local libertarian over a republican or democrat. I think that is a good place to start. From the bottom up.
Feebie at July 3, 2012 6:29 AM
Feebie gets it. I am not a big fan of Romney either, but a second Obama term would be a disaster. He already telegraphed his plan to do whatever he wants in a second term when he was talking to the Russian President. Romney has pledged to pull the plug on the whole deal and as Republican, will be forced by the media to keep that pledge. Please also remember, that there are a lot lefties really pissed at Obama bc they don't think he is left enough. I can promise you that right now he is promising them the moon and the stars if he gets re-elected and I am guessing he plans to deliver. Not voting or voting for a third party will only play into Obama's plans and you will be hurting us all.

Right, and I don't buy into the "lesser of two evils" argument because Amy is RIGHT on this, 100%, it IS a false alternative (logical fallacy).
But to me it's not the lesser of two evils. It's life or death when you have the choice between a business-socialist vs. a dictator, there is A LOT there to consider. It's the complexities.
Between this SCOTUS decision and Obama's executive power grabs...that is enough for me to worry about a complete take over.
And one thing about Romney, I can say this, whatever his faults - NO WAY would he sell our soveriegnty out to the Russians and to China. We'll probably avoid a lot more conflicts over seas in the long run. (This will probably be the only MAJOR difference).
I'll still hold my nose though.....(If I were still in California, I wouldn't waste my vote on Romney. It's going to Obama. I'd vote on principle there)
I still intend on sending Gary money. I hope he runs again when people realize Romney is just another statist in a nice suit - but at least he understands business and he doesn't hate Americans.

I mean, Obama can kill citizens now....without a trial....with DRONES!!! Are you fucking kidding me? He signed that order???? WTF!
Feebie at July 3, 2012 7:18 AM
Ya know, Feebs, BF's been saying all along that if Obaba gets a second term, he'll abolish term limits for president, via executive privilege or whatever, and set himself up as a dictator, with George Soros pulling the strings. I wondered if he was off base on this, but it's now looking more and more probable. Not doable, necessarily, because I think if he even tries to attempt it, most people will take issue (and maybe even try to take his ass out, which I'm surprised hasn't happened yet) with it.
Flynne at July 3, 2012 7:39 AM
And in other news, is it really the end of the world as we know it?
Flynne at July 3, 2012 7:44 AM
LOOK!

Putin thinks Romney is bad, but Obama is "acceptable". Ya know, at least Putin doesn't pretend to be a good guy while screwing his serfs in the ass.
Obama: “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this can be solved, but it’s important for him to give me space,”
Medvedev: “Yeah, I understand...I understand your message about space. Space for you..."
Obama: "This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.”
Medvedev: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir,”
If that doesn't frighten you, nothing will.
Marxist Pigs.

Flynne:
After seeing the picture of those monkey-asses staring at that hole, I all of a sudden feel a little more safe now....
Feebie at July 3, 2012 8:00 AM
And Flynne: regarding a complete overthrow, it won't be with guns - I agree, no way he could pull it off. But selling our sovereignty, our rights, and attempting to implement more controls over our freedom to leave this country, capital controls etc could be accomplished.
If that happens, were looking at some very similar conditions to what sparked the civil war.
I don't think that would be a good thing.
Not saying it would happen either, but why the fuck re-elect this guy.
Feebie at July 3, 2012 8:03 AM
And one thing about Romney, I can say this, whatever his faults - NO WAY would he sell our soveriegnty out to the Russians and to China.
Thats true, as a child to young adult, (and probably beyond although I didnt satay around for that) ideologically moromans are tought that one day they rule the world thru the power of the american government
lujlp at July 3, 2012 12:29 PM
Seriously, Luj, if someone had told me I'd be voting for a Mormon in my lifetime I would have told them they were insane.
That is HOW BAD Obama is.

When the decision was released last week there was a link to people's thoughts. I think the original link I found was from the BBC. The thing I found interesting was that all the individuals were in huge favor of Obamacare. All the business owner's and doctors were against.
Two interest tales I remember. One a small business owner who said he already been talking with his advisers. He will have to lay-off a bunch of people or cutback hours because of all the additional employees who would have to pay for insurance for. The increase in cost was several times his profit.
Another was from a doctor. If I understood correctly, that by his state law (sorry, don't remember which Washington? Wisconsin maybe?) that reasonable cost means it would cover likely expenses but not guarantee profit. So if someone has a pre-existing condition that costs $120,000/year on average, premiums would be over $12,000/month
The Former Banker at July 3, 2012 12:35 PM
Did that small business owner say how many employees were on his payroll?

Between the states that sued on Obamacare and the states that had anti-Obamacare ballot initiatives pass I think it is a plurality that could call an Article 5 (amendment) convention.
One of the ones I think is needed a re-write of the commerce clause to it's original intent prior to Wickard and associated case law. Written as an amendment Congress and/or the states could effectively trim a lot out.
Even if Congress were to repeal Obamacare and Romney were to sign it, because of the SCOTUS ruling, Congress can now pass individual mandates with taxes/penalties that are practically unassailable.
I need help on how to write an amendment to get the original intent of the commerce clause as an amendment.
Then I'm going to write every single one of my state's congresspersons, governor and anyone else that could possibly call an Article 5 convention to get it done.
I'm going to do online petitions and whatever is needed to see what I can do to get them passed.
I'd appreciate any help.
The two I would like to see:

As long as were shooting for permant changes I'd propose two as well
No law, act, or regulation shall be passed by congress which was not
a) authored by soley by congressional members,
b) displayed in its enterity in a public froum for a minimum of 6 months after final editing
And something along the lines of aside from a single secretary/assisant each and a general pool of volenteers equally to all federally elected represinives any othe staff member must be paid for by the office hlder, not the government.
Household staff for the white house being an obvious exception, but why do some senators need 30 something adies and why do the firt and second ladies need a staff or aides at all
lujlp at July 3, 2012 8:56 PM
Also jim regarding the budget, I'd throw in some languge about disallowing "future" revenue to be counted or borrowing for foreign countries, or allowing monies specifically set aside for some govermnt programs like SS to be used to cover shortfalls elsewhere
I am so fucking sick of hearing about the Clinton supluses
lujlp at July 3, 2012 9:04 PM
Sam:
He said he would have to lay some people off to get under the limit - he didn't give exact numbers - or cut back on hours such as people wouldn't qualify for health insurance. He indicated that he already provided health care insurance for about half is employees.
