New York City: Everything Is Now Illegal
David Kramer posts at Lew Rockwell that that he used to enjoy a coffee from the espresso machine in the lounges of the cigar stores he patronized in New York City. Not any more:
After almost nine years, I decided to give cigars a try again. I noticed that the espresso/cappuccino/coffee machine in the first store I revisited was shut down. I was puzzled, so I asked the owner of the store why he no longer offered free coffee. The reason he no longer offered free coffee is because the Nazis of Nazi York City have decided that in order to serve any sort of food or beverage in an establishment, the store has to have a permit. The catch, of course, is that here in Nazi York City you cannot smoke in an eating or drinking (e.g., bar, nightclub) establishment. In other words, if a cigar store serves any sort of food or beverage (even though it's FREE), it can no longer allow smoking in the store!!
I do have to add that calling anyone "Nazi" or "Nazis" who is not putting other humans in the oven and such is always ridiculous.

"I do have to add that calling anyone "Nazi" or "Nazis" who is not putting other humans in the oven and such is always ridiculous."
I highly disagree with the above statement. The Nazis did far more than gas chamber executions, to ignore their other actions, or refuse to describe the same actions as Nazism or Nazi like is very short sighted.

I think the proper term would be fascist. Benito Bloomberg fits the description.

This is not a post about Nazi Germany, hence I'm not going to catalogue everything the Nazis ever did.

In spite of New York becoming the total opposite of what it once was, I still love going there. I don't obey any of the ridiculous ordinances anyway. I've walked around Times Square, Central Park, and Greenwich Village more times than I can count with a joint tucked behind my ear, sipping on spiked water (I buy a bottle of water and a vodka nip as soon as we get into Grand Central. Drink some of the water, pour in the nip, who knows? Or cares? No one pays any attention to me.). I've even walked past the military guys with their dogs. It's like I'm invisible to them. I don't mind. What I DO mind is Nanny Bloomberg screwing things up for everybody else.
Flynne at September 4, 2012 5:43 AM
It seems to me that Nanny Bloomberg fits the description of a Puritan: "Someone who is afraid that somewhere, someone is enjoying life."

Health issue, food and drink. Sometimes silly (remember all those stories anout kids with lemonade?) but rigid enforcement is becoming ever more standard.
My own favorite was about eighteen months ago in an Alaskan town. A group of people wanted to be able to smoke in their meeting place: local ordnance, a bit more enlightened than some, allowed for smoking in bars - so they applied for a liquor license. They were turned down because they "are not likely to serve liquor." The group? A chapter of AA.

I am all about reintroducing segregation: separate establishments for smokers and those who are indifferent and non-smokers. It should be the choice of the institution and of the consumer, i feel that laws are not necessary here. Life was so much better when I could chose not to enter a smoker's building or the smoking room I hate breathing it in outside, this law makes no sense!! Non of these tobacco laws make sense to me. Let the people choose.

Not in the least. Just like all extreme governments they stared with the reasoning of knowing better then their subjects. They banned private gun ownership so the poor would stop shooting each other. Right at the Top of Mikey's list. Then they began to relocate them for their own good, public housing also big Mikey point. They increasingly militarized the police force, thanks to Mikey the NYPD now has anti air capabilities and a few light tanks.
A great many national socialists were not anti semitic but believed that a strong central government would save them. Once you have an all powerful central government horrors like this only require ONE bad appointment. Were it not for the all powerful state the Mikey dreams of Hitler would have been a loud mouth bigot with a Chaplain stash. Not saying that Mikey would begin mass extermination or deportation but his dream is to setup the precursor. He may even genuinely believe he is doing good though I doubt it.

Is that a stash of videotapes of sermons?
(I think you were referring to Chaplin.)

Yes. Chaplin.
As to the substance:
NYPD Anti Air

I can give the links about the public housing and his blatant anti gun stance but your span filter kills any post with more that 1 link. Figure anti air in the hands of civy cops was stark enough. Plus their stunning record of not hitting the actual target.

@Vlad: "Not in the least. Just like all extreme governments they stared with the reasoning of knowing better then their subjects. They banned private gun ownership ..."
All good arguments, especially when coupled with your 11:07 AM comment. The problem is (and there's always one, isn't there?), while your description of a strong, centralized, paternalistic government matches in some respects what the Nazis did, one can't say "Nazi" without bringing to mind the deportations, the pogroms, and invading France via Belgium, to say nothing of the concentration camps. Doing so renders the argument absurd, diminishes the horror of the historic Nazis, and invites screeching charges of Godwinism from all corners.
The trouble is, what does one say, then? "Authoritarian" might work, but not everyone will agree on what that means. "Totalitarian" might be a little over the top. I don't have a good answer.

It's what an Rastafarian Army Padre has instead of communion wine.

How about "nationalist socialists"?
