If You Need A Ladies-Focused Steakery To Feel "Empowered"...
You have things wrong with you that lunch and a fashion show can't fix.
Eva Longoria plans to open a Las Vegas steakhouse for women called (ugh!) "SHe," writes Tiffany Hsu in the LA Times:
The former star of "Desperate Housewives" is closing her restaurant Beso and nightclub Eve in Las Vegas, and reopening the space as a haven for the ladies, complete with small plates and a catwalk for fashion shows. But men will still be welcome....SHe is scheduled to open New Year's Eve in the Crystals shopping space at the CityCenter. A news release envisions the eatery as "an updated interpretation of the gilded age when wealth and excessive opulence ruled America's upper-class combined with a modern version of art deco to create a feeling of empowerment, especially for female guests."
I didn't read the article, but was okay with the news release quote, until I got to the empowerment part.
Wouldn't "Upscale, art-deco steakhouse that caters to the ladies" have done it? Is there something in that word "empowerment" that'll really bring 'em in?
Whatever. Good luck to her; I hope the restaurant does well. A really good steak ain't that easy to find anymore.

Someone at FARK made the comment that what this was really about was nighttime bachlorette parties and events like that and lots of adult Vegas style entertainment....
Now, I suspect there's nothing in the published descriptions that describe this steakery as a modern and adult Chippendale's, but it sounds very plausible, especially given Vegas, especially given the fashion show runway.

Also, can you imagine how much better the margins are for offering women 4, 6, and 8 oz of steak at the prices a "male" steakhouse would be offering, 8, 12, and 16 ounces? (Apparently though it will suck to be a waiter since women are rumored terrible tippers.)
One of the funny things in the article is the mention of STK Steakhouse, a female friendly steakhouse. Never heard of them before but visit their website and watch the commercial:

This is a steakhouse? This is female friendly? What did I just watch?

OK, whatever, I bet the biscuits & gravy are better than Shoney's.
Also, Eva Longoria's mouth is America's Finest Orifice™.

@jerry. "nighttime bachlorette parties "
That makes a lot more sense. Somehow watching fashion models, who weigh 1/2 of what you do, walk on catwalks doesn't sound like a good sales gimic for selling food. "Ooh I would look great in that dress if I lost 30 lbs. Now do I want to order dessert too"

I've never felt 'empowered' by any restaurant. I'm pretty much just interested in them for food. Silly me.
I do like restaurants that serve small plates, but not when it comes to steak. I prefer my 10oz Lodge Filet, thanks.

"an updated interpretation of the gilded age when wealth and excessive opulence ruled America's upper-class..."
Yeah, because that's just what everybody wants to see right now.

And when did wealth and excessive opulence not rule America's upper-class? The former (at least) is definitional, no?

I doubt Eva really thinks her steaks are empowering anyone. She's smart enough to realize that there's a market to be tapped. She'll empower her pretty little self all the way to the nearest bank.

Getting stupid people to hand you their money is a tradition as old as money itself.

Okay, I have to take umbrage at that, or admit I'm the exception that proves the rule. I tip 20% +. Unless you're an asshat. You have to screw up pretty bad to get there with me.
That said, I'm going to the "men's steakhouse". :STEAK!!!!!!! :D

Unless she is there in person, dressed nicely (or has a regular celebrity clientele) -- I would never bother. Same with any famously owned restaurant. And if they have a nightly famous crowd -- I would never show up there either.
I can go to an Outback or Texas Roadhouse or similar place and get a nice large steak for about <$26 per person, without waiting in too long a line and I'll enjoy it.
The only steak place I will recommend everyone experience at least once is Joe Allen's if you are going to Texas. It's worth the detour to Abilene. (And Abilene's only saving grace. :-p)

The rumor is that "SHe" will only serve steak cut from steers, no cows. SHe patrons will eat only male beef, and only after the appropriate modification has been done to it.
(OK, I made that up.)
