That Arab Spring Isn't Quite Springy Enough
The Reuters headline: "Egypt TV host gets jail term for insulting president."
From a tweet:
@davidharsanyi impossible. because, democracy. rt @dmataconis Egypt TV host gets jail term for insulting president
Democracy does seem to be one of those things we just can't seem to buy, no matter how hard we try.
P.S. Egyptian President Morsi participated in a prayer service calling for the annhilation of all Jews, Israel, and their supporters.
Civilization seems impossible to buy as well, no matter how many iPods get sold in Islamic countries.
Maybe this is what they meant Amy:

Anyone wondering what the damage would be for taking the "Nuke Mecca" option, wonder no more!
Use this handy-dandy blast radius mapping tool and see how badly you'd fry 'em all with a variety of nuclear weapons!
Medina! Pyongyang! The hometown of that snotty little bastid in Accounting!
Just type in a city, select a weapon, and check out the rubble zone:

Now the question if Iran were to nuke Tel Aviv and/or Jerusalem what would happen?
I put a 30/70 against Tehran disappearing if it is Obama. If Romney, it will probably be 70/30 against it happening.
Romney seems to realize we're broke.
Back to Amy's central question: Can you buy liberty and capitalism? The simple answer is No.
Liberty started dying with Lincoln. The idea of ending slavery was a good one. The idea that the federal government had a right to rule all the activity in the states was wrong.
If you do the research -- Virginia was the last state to secede. The reason is that Lincoln was ordering states to provide him with troop to fight the Confederation.
Getting back to now -- the Bill of Rights has pretty much been incorporated via the 14th amendment. The problem is that activist court judges have also incorporated things like Roe v. Wade, SSI, Social Security, Medicaid/Medi-Cal, and DUI laws, BATF laws, War on Drug laws, and many others have been incorporated as well.
I want anyone to please show me where any of the subjects in italics are in the United States Constitution. If it is not in the U.S. Constitution. If it is not in the Constitution then it is a Tenth Amendment ruling:

Overly optimistic. As we learned at Nagasaki, local terrain and development, weather conditions, and the specifics of the drop can reduce the effective yield far below what theory predicts. Use at least double the recommended megatonnage to be sure.

I say we just nuke it from orbit.
At this point I can't see anything but a descent into darkness. It's how long until someone breaks out of it.
The countries that may survive as stand alone countries:
Switzerland
Britain and the various islands as independent states.
Australia
Various confederations of individual U.S. States. The east and west coasts are probably a lost cause. (Think Red Dawn.)
