Republicans Need To Get Out Of People's Bedrooms
GOP Rep. Steve LaTourette says that at National Journal, and Ari Armstrong writes that as well:
As I've been pointing out for some time, Colorado demographically tends to be the type of place where people want government out of our wallets and out of our bedrooms. Unfortunately, the Republican Party in this state is dominated by a religious right that wants to outlaw all abortion and discriminate against gays--and that explains to a large degree why Democrats now control the entire state government, again.

Religious right....I never understood this.....God punishes all of us for all of the sins of a country? He's GOD why not just punish individual sinners? Like God hates gays ok so why does he punish everyone for the sins of gays? Why does he not spare the religious?

Aha, that explains why Gary Johnson won there. Oh, wait. . .

So, apparently, they mind government in their wallets less than they mind government in their bedrooms. If they didn't the Democrats would not be in charge of everything.
I figure when the government gets its greedy hands in my wallet, it affects my entire life. The government "in my bedroom" has little to no interference in my life.

Exactly. They preferred to vote for the candidate who didn't support gay marriage before he did. Does he now? Depends; what time is it? And he got 92% of the vote of the minority demographic that supposedly opposes gay marriage.

My proposal: Republicans who are fiscally conservative but socially liberal join forces with Libertarians (they'll have to hash out what name they want to use going forward), and Republicans who are religious conservatives go on to form a new party, the We-Hate-Gays-More-Than-Anything Party.

^^I like this. And yes, I was one of the Coloradoans voting Libertarian and banging my head against the wall because we have a large population of hippies (Boulder) and a large population of religious nutters (Colorado Springs).
On the other hand, I DO see a little progress: in every race in my district there was a Libertarian on the ballot.

Unfortunately, though Colorado tends to be the type of place where people want government out of our wallets and out of our bedrooms, we don't seem to mind having them in our bathrooms telling us what kind of flush or showerhead we can have, or in every light fixture, or in the kitchen telling us what we can pack for our kid's lunch, or in our pants in the airport, or spending money that my kids won't even earn for 40 years.
Any party that will take a stand against that kind of government has got my vote.
