Before You Tattoo The Second Amendment Across Your Forehead, Read The First One
According to the AP, tens of thousands of people have signed a petition calling for the deportation of Piers Morgan, simply because they disagree with his views on gun control:
A petition created Dec. 21 on the White House e-petition website by a user in Texas accuses Morgan of engaging in a "hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution" by targeting the Second Amendment. It demands he be deported immediately for "exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens."
It's called the right to free speech, and if you don't like it, there are many other countries that will have -- and oppress -- you.

The "deport Piers" petition is no more seriously intended than the recent spate of secession petitions. It's just a way to let off steam. Piers does need to learn to let his "guests" speak without all the rude interruptions, and especially without resorting to hurling epithets at them. That's what bothers people about this: WE SEE A RUDE PERSON!

And sorry, this isn't a petition on Funny or Die. I suspect the people who put their names on it take it seriously.
It's ugly and awful. And I say that as somebody who can laugh at a rather wide spectrum of stuff.

Please, it's a joke. The whole petition website is a joke. Has any of these petitions ever resulted in anything meaningful?

It seems to me that the petitioners have as much right to say that they want to see Piers go as Piers has to his wrong-headed, ill-informed opinions. If you follow Twitter, you'll see tweets from Brits who are begging us not to send him back.
rick at December 24, 2012 9:47 AM
Piers Morgan has rights according to the 1st amendment? Is Piers even a citizen of this country? Probably not, so does he have 1st amendment rights? Rights of subversion? If he does have rights, he has the right to free speech but does he have the right to be here in this country? His presence here is not welcome. He can go back to Britain with his trash talk.
Dragonslayer666 at December 24, 2012 9:56 AM
At least as seriously as the petition to begin construction of a Death Star - which has achieved the requisite number of signatures to prompt a White House response.

The Constitution applies to non-citizens, which is why I haven't taken a nice little Hungarian midget as my slave.

I think it's about as dumb as the "America: Love it or Leave It" bumperstickers. Completely anti-American knee-jerk redneck nonsense.
Piers Morgan does bring a refreshingly Socialistic viewpoint, even though he remains under the thumb of a Royal Family born to their divine right to strip him of his own personal wealth.
That and his government's never-ending campaign to install cameras in his front yard to make sure he doesn't fight back when he's stabbed to death in a skinhead knife attack in disarmed Britain, of course.
I don't blame him for moving here and taking an American's job.
Piers is such a closet-case American he probably has a stack of Guns & Ammo mags under his bed.

Rick is quite right, we Brits are quite happy for you folks to keep Piers. His contribution to British society was in plumbing new depths of tastelessness while working for a variety of tabloids.
Having said that, he is a guest in the USA rather than a citizen, and it seems at least ungracious of him to attack the Constitution. It's rather like a dinner guest mocking the host's taste in curtains. No-one would be surprised if the guest were not invited to the next soiree.

If I flew to London and said (seriously) that Princess Whassername should be beheaded for infertility, or that miners in Newcastle should be terminated for pollution, the response would be... What?
If I went to Riyahd and said that women should walk topless in the town center and the Monarchy was composed of the mentally retarded...
No, saying that some expression is a component of "their speech" doesn't mean it's fully protect, either from legal action or from other response... Speech is supposed to do stuff. The rule of thumb goes like this: You can say whatever you want in America, and then you harvest the consequences. The difference between us and other people is that over yonder, you didn't have the right to say it in the first place.
Piers Morgan is an idiot broadcaster of the old school, and CNN is right behind Newsweek on the way to the dumpster... I've heard his audience is smaller than that of many infomercials. He's a shabby little man who makes a living saying shabby little things to shabby little viewers who have shabby little feelings about him.
No matter how many of the signatures are sincere, I think it's repellant that we're paying White House staffers to tally these signatures... As if as a service to his resume.

And this is more ridiculous than the Usual Suspects[*] in Hollywierd who thinks that Obama should be allowed to jail his critics?
Besides, who is actually signing the Piers Morgan petition? the 25 people who actually watch his show???
[*] you'd think that people who rely on the protections of the First would be more...educated about it...Sean Penn, Harry Belafonte, yeah, I'm looking at you.

I have no problem with Piers Morgan spouting off his liberal viewpoint. The reason the Second Amendment exists is to ensure everyone has their First Amendment rights protected as well as the rest of the Bill of Rights protected.
I admit I did sign the petition. I consider his viewpoint a valid to hold. But I have as much right to my viewpoint as well.
What if I, and enough other people, disagreed with him enough to contact CNN and say they are going to boycott CNN until he is gone -- would that be wrong?
Is it wrong when it happened to Don Imus for his "nappy-headed hos"?
What about Politically Incorrect being cancelled after Bill Maher expressed his opinions after 9/11?
What about the attacks on Bill O'Rielly, Limbaugh, Stossel, Sharpton, and all the others over the years.
Even if the petition gets 1M signatures, it still means nothing. The jackass is essentially protected by the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause:
The Equal Protection Clause has been found to hold even for illegal immigrants.
So I can agree it is ugly -- it is no uglier than any other disagreement with any news or entertainment figure.

Piers who?
Charles at December 24, 2012 2:00 PM
What's great about our country- we don't deport or put people in jail for saying things like the holocaust did not happen. Ahem Europe.
Let's keep it that way, he can say whatever ridiculous things he wants about guns.
Purplepen at December 24, 2012 2:17 PM
Morgan talking to Gun Owners of America -- Larry Pratt (e.g. Stop laughing)
Jesse Ventura (ex-Spec Ops) discussion with Piers Morgan.
I can't agree with Piers Morgan's view. He is allowed to have it. But calling me wrong for finding to limit his view, legally, is wrong.
I nominally signed the petition as the 177th signer. I did it because I think he is wrong. But he does have a right to his opinion.
If I were to contact CNN and asked that he be fired, I would be within my rights. My signing of the petition is also my right.
Would I like to see his ass fired and sent back to England -- hell yes. Did I ask for it -- yes, I was number 177 on the petition. If the ass is fired from CNN, I might cheer. If he were deported just for his views -- I'd have to question the limits of the government.
Because if 50,000,000 citizens signed the petition -- then I would start to fight on his behalf even as objectionable as I view him.
We are a representative republic, not a democracy or a socialist country. Everyone has a right to their opinion.

There is a reason us yanks kicked the shite out of the Brits a couple hundred years back.
Perhaps Piers didn't get the memo of just how much we Yanks 1) love out guns, 2) don't give two hoots about what some stuffy ass colonialist, pamper wearing, finger wagging, king-bowing limey thinks of our culture or our constitution.
I mean, what an ass! He gets a job here, with no talent and gets paid to insult us? Fuck'em. When is he leaving? Why does he even want to stay?

I think it's a sure thing that an old Suzanne Somers ThighMaster video would pre-empt him nicely. The controversy over whether Chrissy ever needed to exercise would be much more pleasant.
It would be nice to play his Ted Nugent interview back, too.

Turnabout is fair play for the banning of Michael Savage.
Not that I watch CNN, unless I'm in an airport. I wouldn't know Mr Morgan if I passed him on the street.
You'd think we wanted him charged with subversive activities or something instead of banishment for being a public nuisance.

Poor Musket Morgan. He's little more than a dishonest attention whore.
I wish we could swap Musket for Jeremy Clarkson who gave him a few punches several years ago. Clarkson doesn't want him back in the U.K. any more than many of us want him here in the states.
