Evidence to Suggest that Copulatory Vocalizations in Women Are Not a Reflexive Consequence of Orgasm
More evidence:
It doesn't so much say that women fake orgasm (which we do) as it says we fake what orgasm sounds like. I can only speak for myself, but vocalization during sex isn't for me, it's for the guy. The male ego can be an amazingly fragile thing.

Just love Billy's face. Jack Benny would be proud.
"Now cut that out!"

The "I'll have what she's having" woman is the director's mother. It's even funnier when you know that.

Hey, Jingoist,
It works the other way around, too. Next time your guy "finishes", check your own ego, dear. It just may not have been that good for him, either.

"Evidence to Suggest that Copulatory Vocalizations in Women Are Not a Reflexive Consequence of Orgasm"
No, I didn't read the paper. And I'm not likely to read a paper that uses 15 words for the title when 5 would have sufficed, as Miss Alkon's title indicates.
Economy, people, economy!

what I find odd about this... it's only important IFF the guy actually cares how this feels for his mate.
If he's just in it to get off, once he's done, it's done, why does he care if she says one word?
So, is this an evolutionary construct, or a social one? Is it more important now, than it used to be? After all, many times in our past, we shared living space with extended families and tribes... you'd think that being quiet was more important there.
If you've thin walls or your college room-mate to fool, you can do this quietly.
Heh, I was at a con where the guy next door was gettin' it on with a screamer - and my roomies, the people on the other side of him, and the guys across the hall started pounding on the doors and walls. It might have been a 'deflating' experience.
Just remember, if you fake it, you can't complain that you weren't satisfied later.
SwissArmyD at February 16, 2013 8:56 AM
Ahem. They don't fake it for me.
But they do for Crid.
Radwaste at February 16, 2013 10:54 AM
Yeah, well, you can't expect the woman to fake it when she's been slipped roofies...
Just Kidding! You opened yourself up to that.

Hey, that's great and all, baby, but could you get up and make me a sammich?

People like to say Keanu is stoopit, but when asked which actress he most wanted to fuck, he said Streep: 'She'd make me think I was the best.'

Yep. If it ain't workin', you gotta fix it.

Jingoist: I can only speak for myself, but vocalization during sex isn't for me, it's for the guy.
I'm curious...do you like vocalization by the guy? Or do you prefer to have sex in silence?

Re: Streep. I'm reminded of my favorite line from this year's Golden Globes. Delivered by either Tina Fey or Amy Poehler (I forget which one):
"Meryl Streep is not here tonight. She has the flu. And I hear she's amazing in it."
JD at February 16, 2013 5:11 PM
"Even when absent, I rule your spirit."
That would be golden, like most of your prose, if it were true - because you're never absent.
Just check. Oh wait - you don't check anything.
And she's still faking it for you.
Radwaste at February 16, 2013 5:47 PM
There's a possibility that the vocalisation is to encourage the male partner, so that the female partner actually gets an orgasm. It's sort of like a progress bar (it tells him how long he has to go, whereas in silence he might give up). So it's possible it starts out faked and ends up real.
Notwithstanding SwissArmyD's comment, most guys are proud of their ability to satisfy their partner. If not, why are men so sensitive to revelations of faking? Another ego thing.
And for the record, none of my partners have ever had to fake it. They all assured me of that, and I won't hear another word on the subject!

There is ample physical evidence when a man has an orgasm. I don't need to wonder.

Sex without screaming and/or vocabulary is hardly "in silence." The heavy breathing and grunts that naturally occur from physical exertion are enough for me.
The Jingoist at February 17, 2013 6:57 AM
News flash Jingoist, men can have big o's and little o's, and 'climax' with almost no pleasurable sensation at all
lujlp at February 17, 2013 7:58 AM
Jingoist, you're right. I guess sex is hardly ever in complete silence. There's likely always some kind of sound going on.
Anyway, interesting that you don't like talking. I love it.
Vive la différence!
