Any candidates to replace her yet? Because I give her nine months, tops.

“It’s incredibly disappointing,” says Jennifer Owens, editorial director of Working Mother Media. “It’s a step backwards—a mindset from the days when Yahoo was launched.”
First of all, "Working Mother Media." Makes ya wanna spin up the ol' VHS machine, don't it? They have an "Editorial Director."
Second of all, as I've been going through a negotiation of my own lately, I've been reminded how this works: When you provide the value people want, you set your prices accordingly. Everyone on the surface of the planet can stay home and their bosses won't care as long as they deliver the goods.
I don't know if Meyer is going to turn Yahoo into something interesting & precious again. Maybe not; maybe failure will come from her own weakness, or maybe the task was always going to be impossible.
But as layers of despicable illusion about the creation of wealth continue to be shredded in the American heart, she'll earn no enmity from me by citing Woody Allen: "90% of success is just showing up."
Were people who couldn't be bothered to do even that ever going to full fulfill the proud & ancient mission of "Working Mother Media"? Who truly convinced you that computer communications would allow you to thrive, unseen and uncriticized, in sweat pants? Do you remember the precise moment when you embraced this fantasy?
I wonder deeply what Jennifer Owens thinks the (complementary) word 'forward' means... Or what money she ever made for anyone.

Feel bad about the extra "full," though.
It's very late here.

And Amy, I admire you for so far avoiding the obvious Linkin Park reference. Although I realize that all good things must come to an end.

There is hope for us who have had an uncomfortable winter. My gelding started shedding yesterday and my two outside cats went outside for a couple of minutes this morning. I did not train those Mallards (second cataract removal tomorrow - I think they were Mallards) Crid.

That moar ducks kid is like orion. All fun and games until reality landed on his head. Kid was lucky it wasn't a loon baby he messed with. Mom and Dad would have chased him to the bottom of the lake and poked holes in his head.

I wouldn't be surprised if we find out years later that Meyer cut a deal with one of the many bankrupted counties in a very bankrupted state to do this for payroll tax purposes.
I had a job in San Francisco I use to telecommte from on occasion. It was fantastic for my employer and for me because I could get my work done (even more while at home) and didnt have to pay San Francisco payroll taxes or parking/public transportation cost to a very liberal commie he'll hole.
Everytime I worked outside of San Francisco I reported that day to my payroll department so they could adjust accordingly.
Just think of all the revenues lost to counties and states with large corporations full of telecommuters.
In return I wouldn't be surprised if Yahoo catches some sweet Facebook tax status deal.
This isn't about "free market" selection. I guarantee you that. If it were, in this economy, yahoo could just as simply fire all the ones that weren't gettingtheir work done and probably have thousands in line willing to do these jobs- quality talent is not lacking in the silicon valley.
Just doesn't make sense.
My former employer cut some sweet deals with the city they were working in and drawing payroll dollars to in exchange for prime real estate, tax credits etc to keep them from moving out.
Meyer isn't all pioneer woman so much as she is politically savvy. But whatever the media tells us, right?

"Do you remember the precise moment when you embraced this fantasy?"
When I tripled my income, stopped commuting and moved from salaried 60-70 hour weeks to contracted 40 hour weeks.
If we absolutely MUST meet in person, we meet. Otherwise, WebEx, chat, email, and phone calls suffice.

New Yahoo CEO embraces the flexibility and power of the interwebs by demanding all employees drive to the office every day.
