When you're 24 and deservedly poor and howlingly stupid, the budget for new car will seem like an ambition for late old age. (It actually appeared three years later.*) I saw the commercial just once, in a control room at work, but knew instantly that the Advertising Industrial Complex could never again strike its target so squarely, or goose aspirations so deftly... And it never did. (I remembered that scrap-cheese sax solo note-for-note, and the 1980's were littered with them.) (And note the [wool!] sportcoat cuff at cassette insertion.) Few feature films in that decade seemed as poignant, or as comfortable in concision.
Are young people as foolish about banner ads and popups as some of us were about television?

Interesting Marginal Revolution link, Crid. Hadn't paid much attention to the site before, but found myself scrolling backwards through the posts, eventually finding this discussion of human cannonballs from 24 March. The obvious pun appears around the 12th comment down.
