Keeping Prostitution Illegal Gives Pimps For Child Prostitutes Cover
Ari Armstrong is right. His tweet:
@ariarmstrong
If prostitution were legal (for adults), it would be far easier to track down and stop child pimps.
In Denver alone, six (evil) pimps arrested, nine children saved. Sadie Gurman writes in The Denver Post:
The nine children were among 105 recovered in 76 cities throughout the country, the FBI announced Monday. At least 150 pimps nationwide face state and federal charges as a result of Operation Cross Country VII....In an unrelated case in December, eight people, some of whom had connections to the Crips street gang, were indicted after prosecutors said they used online ads to sell sex with underage girls to clients in several Colorado cities and beat the girls when they did not comply.

I am so sick of hearing about this today. At first I thought they were talking about the local effort in giving the numbers -- but no the numbers were for the entire nation. Does not seem very effective to me. They didn't even average 2 children per a city.
so 150 pimps and 105 children...uh...were some of the pimps doubled up? Some of the children were actually adults?

"If prostitution were legal (for adults), it would be far easier to track down and stop child pimps."
How?
Radwaste at July 30, 2013 2:52 AM
Well, for example, right now, all prostitution is underground and resources are spent on stings to catch consenting adults wanting to exchange cash and sex.
Imagine if the only kind of prostitution we went after is -- as The Former Banker points out and as a study pointed out in the wake of the Backpage.com furor -- is the actually rather rare "trafficking" of children. (The study found that many of the child prostitutes were actually boys who engaged in it without pressure from a pimp.)

Absolutely, banker. Why bother? They should just be left to be sex slaves until they're killed. After all, there were only 105 of them, not nearly enough to matter.

One girl from my hometown was saved: http://www.newstimes.com/local/article/FBI-rescues-Milford-girl-from-life-of-prostitution-4694604.php
Thank you, FBI, for that at least. Even if one child is saved, the effort is worth it.

It's just heart-breaking to me, Amy. I can't imagine such a life. I hate that some people are such bastards that they'll use children in such a way. It's disgusting.
Flynne at July 30, 2013 8:13 AM
@ Radwaste "How?"
Well some would claim, with it being legal, you would have everything brought out in the open, and visible. Which assumes no prostitutes or Johns would want prostitution hidden, from spouses, lovers, friends etc.
Other things they would claim is could concentrate only on the child part of it instead of the whole thing. Or self policing, now that they were above board.
Or with legality would come licensing, taxes and some security. And assume no one would do it, unofficially/unlicensed.
But I doubt legalization would have much effect on it. Just look at immigration, having legal immigration, does not prevent illegal immigration.
Joe J at July 30, 2013 9:25 AM
(cont) Not that any of that is a reason to not legalize prostitution. Just I really don't see it changing child one bit.

Pedophiles are addicts. Even if legal prostitution did solve the child prostitution problem, it would only drive the sicko's to prey on neighborhood children or family members.

At least THOSE children would likely have loving parents and teachers watching for any sign of over-friendly attention in adults or abuse symptoms in children. Child prostitutes do not have such protective adults in their lives, as a rule. Why should they be abandoned just because we're squeamish about what consenting adults do?

Nobody is suggesting they should be. I'm in favor of legal prostitution. Tax it, tax it, tax it!! Can you imagine the revenue stream?
I'm simply saying legalized prostitution isn't a quick fix for child abuse.

No, but imagine a world NicoleK where adult women who move themselves arent counted as 'trafficked' and the money to fight trafficking went to acctualy fight trafficking as opposed to going to groups which fight trafficking, which is then used to hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by hiring more grant writers to ask for more money to fight trafficking by . . . .

Well, then, luj, it'd be an accident, then, wouldn't it? Tragic, but still an accident. Sometimes these things happen, but I'd still be grateful for the life saved; what if it was your niece they saved?

I call it giving what you get.

Actually, this is flatly wrong. The rescue of prisoners, of whatever kind, is a physics problem. Provided the rescue is planned, it has a good chance of success provided the goal is set as a rescue - not a publicity stunt, which killed 80+ children for real at Waco some years ago.
You have a shocking lack of sense about you regarding real-world practices and methods across several disciplines. You should get out more.

"I'm not against legalizing prostitution, but don't kid yourself, it isn't a panacea to stop all sex trafficking."
We don't decriminalize prostitution because it's supposed to stop sex trafficking, but because it's COMPLETELY unethical and a barbarous human rights violation to violently arrest someone and physical lock them in a small cell for a completely mutually consenting transaction and activity.

How would they KNOW that 8 out of 10, lets say, rescuers would be shot?
