School, In A Nutshell...
Dr. Brooke Magnanti tweet (click on it to see the note).
Best part is the teacher's admission in the note, "Although he was correct, Alex's actions show a blatant disregard for authority, and a complete lack of respect for his school." (Go, Alex. The note is from 1994, but here's hoping he's continued.)
Incidentally, the teacher's note also shows a lack of regard for grammar (with the unnecessary comma after "authority").
Amy,
Snopes has it as undetermined.
I'm going to dump it in the hoax category.

I call shenanigans. The "accepting my teachings without resistance" is really stretching it (not the attitude, which many of us have encountered at one time or another, but the phrase itself). Seems like an attempt at satire to me.
Do teachers really use the traditional late 20th-century business letter format to send home notes to parents? That seems dubious, too, but I don't have children.

"note also shows a lack of regard for grammar (with the unnecessary comma after "authority")."
The teacher's note is really a bit of a mess.
The two rules that come to mind are "never join two independent clauses with a comma" and "use a comma before the conjunction introducing an independent clause."
That teacher better not mess with me, that's for sure. Hell, me and my biker gang will ride into town and gang-edit every real estate brochure and coffeehouse menu on Main Street.

What Kevin said. Gotta be satire.

Dr. Brooke, aka Belle de Jour, isn't exactly a serious researcher. I'm sure she found this on the interwebs.
