Black Friday Stampede At My House
Mad rush for kibble, which my dainty dog eats like a hog rushing the trough.
Afterward, the shame.Okay, it is possible she's feeling it on the inside.
In hopes of getting her to eat more slowly without my having to say "Eat!" and "Stop!", we did just have a KONG Wobbler Treat Dispensing Dog Toy delivered. I got the small. Unfortunately, I forgot to check the size, in inches, of the small, which, now I see is half the size and a third of the weight of my dog. (When people talk about "small dogs, they usually mean one that's 15 pounds, not one that's just over three!)

Amy, I've never used one for our dog, but I heard that these work well. The dog has to push it out of the way to eat.

I saw those at the pet store but she has such a tiny snout that I saw it wouldn't be much of an impediment for her. I like the toy because it makes eating active and makes this a game. She loves games.

I have one of these and it is great. Flexible material is very durable. Just insert the food and let doggo roll it around to get the treasures. Same company makes a "pickle pocket" that works well, too.

They come in different sizes. I use the medium. It is about the size of a baseball.

How much food does she get? Like a quarter cup?
You can use an ice cube tray for a serving dish. Or you can just take the dry kibble and heave it across the kitchen floor (or back yard!) for an epic game of hide n seek. Dogs love that game. Or put the kibble in an empty water bottle and leave the lid off. Or put small piles of kibble underneath little bowls so she has to work at flipping over several things to get her entire meal. Or get some fist-sized river rocks and wedge them in a bowl and sprinkle her dinner around so it trickles down and around the stones. Or hide little stashes around the house or yard and let her in the area and tell her to Find It! Make her work for it.

What the heck is that dog? It's got ears like a fennec.
My neighbors have three little hairy dogs that they leave inside all day with the front door open but the gate closed.
They all bark at different rates that sync up in cycles.
"Bo-BAP, bo-BAP, bo-BAH-bo-BAH-bo-BAP, bo-BAP, bo-BAP, bo-BAH-bo-BAH-bo-BAP, bo-bap, bo-BAP."
Etc., for eight or nine hours at a time. Every day.
On the bright side, they used to have five Rottweilers that did the same thing. You need earplugs and earphones when it's Rottweilers. The little hairballs just require earplugs.
