Amy, interesting AMA at reddit. It provides information pro and con to Obamacare in that a doctor examines much of the terrible deceptive practices involved in healthcare insurance and healthcare in general that grossly inflate costs.
I am David Belk. I'm a doctor who has spent years trying to untangle the mysteries of health care costs in the US and wrote a website exposing much of what I've discovered AMA!
Those of us who aren't enslaved to the stupidity that is having health care through a workplace are free to get an HMO and not deal with that sort of thing.
If your HMO is run by an insurance company, I suspect your rates are undoubtedly directly affected by these practices, and almost certainly affected by how that insurance company bills hospitals, doctors, and customers not in your HMO.
I think anyone using a doctor or hospital on a non cash basis is swimming together in this pool.

If you read the comments, I wonder what happens when the bakers start showing up with over-baked cakes with the thinnest of store bought icing and the names mis-spelled.
Or the florists send in almost wilted flowers? Or the photographer sucks for their weddings? Or the dress maker gets it too loose?
Essentially there is a world of difference between a general store like Wal-mart, KMart, Macy's or Kroger saying we don't want to sell to gays and a small business that has an artisan involved.
