Cool! My Boyfriend Had A Character On Elmore Leonard's "Justified" Named After Him
In the Freep piece by Julie Hinds today, quoting "Justified" gentleman-showrunner Graham Yost:
"If I give those out, then they're no longer cookies," says Yost. But he did reveal that Koechner's character is named Gregg Sutter, the same name as Leonard's longtime real-life researcher.
He's talking about a Florida policeman character played by "Anchorman 2" star David Koechner.

Sorry that it's Koechner (not a particular like of mine as a comedian) but otherwise - incredibly cool!

That is cool. I rarely watch TV, but a friend recommended Justified and I watched all 4 seasons via amazon on my laptop. I really enjoyed the dialogue, which I have read is Elmore Leonard-esque. It made me want to read his books, too.

That is cool! I just binge-watched Season 4 over Christmas.
And L.A. folks, Writers Bloc is putting on a tribute to Mr. Leonard on Jan. 21st in Santa Monica. From the description:
"Justified’s Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins (Raylin Givens and Boyd Crowder, respectively) , and Graham Yost, creator of Justified, read from and talk about the story that got the series off the ground; Peter Leonard represents his father, and other actors read from his work."

I bet that cop is short, gregarious guy who likes to wear bright colors and chat up strangers at parties. While slamming carbs.

I sat next to him at our table at the National Book Awards and got to talk a lot with him. He's just a great guy. Graham, that is. Gregg, too, but dif story.

…Who slams carbs, likes to spend the weekends in the kitchen with his fat, timid girlfriend, and prefers watching TV to reading. Y'know, an incurious guy.

As good as it could be, I suppose:
Ok, now, the weird part is " we are dedicated to advocating for a wide diversity of families. It is one of our core principles". That the weird part.
Why advocate for wide diversity? Why not just accept it as it appears? What magic comes through slamming people into unusual configurations?
This is the magical thinking of children. Leftydom often is. They want to pretend that laughing at other people's families is an expression of virtue.

"the kitchen with his fat, timid girlfriend"
I love that Gregg appreciates a woman who ain't timid.
A long time ago I dated this guy that always always dated shy timid nice plain jane girls. My baby face must have fooled him (back when I had a baby face) because I was just quite the opposite. He broke up with me because I ain't no wilting flower. And he loved chastising me.
Funny enough he calls me this year (8 years later).
But I learned my lesson, I love quiet guys that don't mind a loudmouth girlfriend who makes them chuckle.

I dated a guy before I met him who was just appalled by the real me.
And yes, exactly this: "I love quiet guys that don't mind a loudmouth girlfriend who makes them chuckle."
