Gwaelod-y-garth is (according to the website I checked) is "Gway lod er garrth" (trill the double rr). It's Welsh for "foot of the garth." And Merthyr Tydfil is almost phonetic: Mirth-er-TID-ful.

One of my great-grandfathers was from Wales. He used to say "it goes like this: the Irish hate the English, the English hate the Scots, the Scots hate the Welsh, and the Welsh hate 'em all!"

Thanks, Patrick. I'd probably still stumble over half the words, though!

WTF. Someone just posted this on their FB page, I'm friends with them, but somehow, it got removed from my page. I didn't remove it, in fact, because I live so close to Sandy Hook, I'm now intrigued because this guy is asking some questions no one seems to want to give the answers to:
Now, I drove up that main road before and after that event, many times, to take my daughter to and from school in Danbury, and there were so many tributes and such to those people. And if no one died, where are they? Why were funerals held? But on the other hand, why was the school torn down, and Columbine wasn't? And why did people come knocking at this guy's door and threaten him? He's trying to do his JOB and he's getting blocked from getting answers to legitimate questions. Now I don't know what to think.

A little poem(?) that I saw once in a store selling gullible tourists Celtic-inspired crap:
______________________________
First came the Scots
Who prayed on their knees
As well as on their neighbors
Then came Welsh
Who kept the Sabbath
And anything else they could get a hold of
Then came the Irish
Who didn't know what they wanted
But were willing to fight for it anyway
Finally, came the English
Who considered themselves a self-made people
Thus relieving the Almighty of a dreadful responsiblity

This is a street view of what I'm sure is a perfectly pleasant Welsh community.
Does anyone have any idea how to pronounce the name of the town and the street?

An ancient Welsh kingdom, lost beneath the sea. Well, maybe. It's fun to think about, anyway, as long as you don't have to worry about pronunciation.

Shame that we (the little people) don't even realize how much freedom we have lost. Time to be hardcore and blunt speaking.
Wouldn't it be fun to be able to afford your own personal billboard along a busy street.
