The church's followers are being characteristically tight-lipped and refuse to confirm or deny any rumors about the condition of its patriarch.

With so much else going on the world, Patrick, I think whether or not that particular piece of garbage warrants any attention is just a matter of preference. I don't CARE about him, never did. He's a hateful bigot and whatever happens to him will have no effect (immediate or otherwise) on me whatsoever. The only real purpose he ever served was as a poster child for prophylactics.
" characteristically tight-lipped"... Major props for that one, Patrick.

My posting about his terminal condition isn't really to suggest that people should mourn his passing or be happy that such a vile human being is about to die.
I've discussed this before, but I find the nation's response to him to be very interesting. For about a decade, Phelps and crew had been picketing the funerals of homosexuals, even those were not homosexuals themselves, but somehow connected with them, such as Sonny Bono, father of a lesbian daughter (now transgendered).
And the response of the homosexual community was to find creative ways to simply drown him out, such a blocking him from view as the choir of a local MCC dressed as angels with gigantic wings, and surrounded the picketers. Or making up their own versions of the WBC signs with sayings like "WE'RE CLOESTED!" and mingling with them. They also got local businesses to pledge donations for every minute that WBC picketed, then donating the proceedings to a cause of interest to the homosexual community.
As for a decade, this was the only opposition that they got.
Then apparently they decided they wanted more exposure and included the funerals of combat veterans in their protests. It was then that the law became involved and enacted laws that forbid protests within a certain radius of the funerals.
Having an uncommon perspective as both gay man and veteran, therefore doubly despised by this crew, I find his evolution of being ignored, ridiculed and thwarted to being criminalized to be fascinating.

I wonder what the reaction would be if the Hell's Angels and other such groups would show up for his funeral?
Patrick, about six years ago there was a tragic school bus crash here that killed several high school students. The Westboro Baptist gang showed up and threatened to protest at the girls' funerals. That told me what they are... plain old attention whores.

I wonder what their rationale was for wishing to protest at the girls' funerals.
Not that I don't consider their justifications to be valid, but they usually have some ostensible reason for protesting. For instance, the funeral of Sonny Bono, who is supposedly in hell for having a lesbian daughter. The funerals of soldiers are protested because they're defending a fag America and they were invading "Babylon" (Iraq).
The proposed law would allow men to marry girls as young as nine and give husbands license to force their wives to have sex with them without consent. The legal age for marriage in Iraq is currently 18
But somehow the feminists are ignoring it and making the use of the word "bossy" the cause celebre' for the now.
