Got a few minutes? An open mind? A masculine capacity for obsession?
Well, this is an old one, it happened about ten years ago. I'd been making a habit of listening to unfamiliar electronic music pieces more than once, even when they were no fun. Across my whole life, that's how it's worked... Approaching it like a chore, whether it's jazz or classical or advanced prog or opera or whatever... Listening to it even when there's no interest, and then listening to it again.
So then, weeks later, I was wrapping up a big shift of work at about 10:00PM. Goodbye producer, write email to the boss, machinery off, out the door. And it came down... Like a hit of acid, or the first boner for a particular girl, or the first use of a shitty metaphor. I'm walking through the darkened offices, toting the briefcase, and then it's in full consciousness: Those three notes. Unremarkable ones, over and over, but I'm dancing towards the elevator.
You can be grownup about it and listen to the whole thing. Or you can start here, about 16½ minutes in. Try to hang on for awhile, maybe until 90 seconds after the big, clean percussion has cut in...
Possibly the greatest Bohemian Rhapsody cover, ever.
Possibly.

Later, it will haunt you.
