Ick: It's "International Women's Day"
The existence of a special day for women (like for kindegarteners) screams "We're not equal." Thanks; I'll pass.

Despite its socialist origins; International Women's Day did, at one time anyway, bring attention to the second-class status of women in many parts of the world (e.g., Saudi Women can't leave the house without a male relative, or that in many parts of the world women are bought and sold for marriage; or that some women are killed for bringing "dishonor" to the family.)
And, it was a good thing to bring to the first world's attention, in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, something could be done.
However, it has, in the first world at least, developed into a "oh, boo-hoo, we women don't get to have it all because of greedy selfish men" and other such nonsense claims (e.g., women are paid less than men for the same work) by first world man-haters who wouldn't last a minute under the conditions that their "sisters" live under in the rest of the world. Ha! Forget the inequalities; just gathering firewood and carrying water would kill most of those spoiled brats!
Too many women (and it is true of people in general, not just women) only think of themselves. They think of what they don't have instead of counting their blessings and trying to help those less fortunate.
It would be nice if those reasons for International Women's Day were brought to the foreground again - but, I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.
