"Zero Tolerance" Is The First Step To The Total Pussification Of America
That sort of thinking -- which isn't thinking at all but a nonthink combo platter of fear, stupidity, and fear of litigation in action -- leads to the thinking that this sort of thing just below is necessary. (Helicopter parenting becoming "normal" parenting is surely a factor, too.)
And the news inspiring this blog post? Parents of kids at a school in Pennsylvania must sign a permission slip for their kids to eat an Oreo after it's used in a science experiment.
The joy that is lawyers.

it's also the atmosphere of easy nonthink for the administrators. Just say no.

Oh, I think the administrators have to think about it a lot; the easy nonthink would be just to give the kids Oreos.
And they have to think about it because they deal with "normal" helicopter parenting.

Now someone's going to get on someone else behind for "marginalizing" the poor student whose guardian didn't sign the permission slip and has to be in the class without a crumb to eat while all the other students eat their cookies.
Just ban the darn cookies all together now!
