Cat Hatred Isn't Something That Suddenly Occurs To You
Here, pussy, pussy, pussy...
From "Good Manners for Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck," which I hope you'll buy and read, if you haven't already. (Orders of the book -- new only, not used! --help support my writing and keep me from dining out of Dumpsters.)
(Also at B&N.)
Some are born cat haters, some achieve cat hatred, and some have cat hatred thrust upon them.

The only thing cats are good for is rodent control.
Also: dogs have masters, cats have staff.

Hah - right on, both of you.
For the record, I dislike the creatures and now see them as determined to infect me with toxoplasmosis.

My dad keeps a cat at his work. She decapitates and disembowels mice and rats in front of his clients. Leaves little dead bodies everywhere or tortures them in typical cat fashion.

I like cats well enough. I just can't eat a whole one by myself anymore.

Hah Ppen...is that your dad's way of sending a message to his clients?

My dog has staff. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
But I figure after ten years in a puppy mill, she deserves it. I'm trying to make it up to her, not that she seems to remember it - those Cage Years are probably more prominent in my mind than they are in hers.
Don't get me wrong, I taught her that my home is her home also, and it's stupid to poop or pee in your own home. She has figured it out. But the Children of the Great Pug Buddha are sacred, and I will make her life as good as it can possibly be.
Her scars are healing and her crooked little back is even starting to straighten out.
I used to have a cat and I loved her, too.
When my former pug Holly died, my sweety took it really hard. He said it surprised him, how hard that loss was. I was probably more mentally-prepared for it than he was, but it still took me by surprise anyway. Ava Mae is a ray of sunshine to us both, after that loss.
Someone who didn't love my masters wouldn't be the right one for me.

I actually prefer cats but then mine were better trained than most of the dogs I have been around (at least in the US). After a weekend with my friend's dog, I told my husband we were never getting one. That, of course, won't stand, but I can't say I am looking forward to the day we get one. At least he will be happy and I will make sure the pup is trained and socialized to an acceptable level.

I have a mill rescue Shiba Inu and an insane calico cat (I think insane calico might be redundant, but).
I love them both and any guy who thinks I'd kick them to the curb for him, or that I'd never again have pets, is going to have to find another woman.

Being indifferent to an animal is one thing.
Actively mistreating them or neglecting them is another.
I love cats, even as I develop an ever stronger reaction to their dander as I age.
I would never consider a relationship with someone who didn't like domestic animals, and treat them well.
I am not particularly germaphobic, but it is kind of unpleasant if I forget to wash my hands, or change my shirt after picking up, a cat, and petting them, when my eyes swell shut.
I'm becoming more consciencous about doing that. My reaction to them, is like slow acting tear gas,
Since cats have been living with humans for several thousand years, I figure toxoplasmosis is one of those flavor of the month medical scare stories, not something most individuals should be worried about except for the immune system compromised. (That door handle to the ladies room at the gas station is a bigger threat by far and I don't touch it after washing my hands.)
