Facebook Is The Borg
For days, I had mysterious annoying bell dings on my Mac. It turns out that Facebook turned on sound notifications -- entirely without my doing -- for when people comment on posts.
P.S. I just post links to my blog posts -- I'm not posting fascinating information about my bra size or what I had for lunch.
Facebook is notorious for changing user preferences without asking. For instance, you cannot keep your feed on "latest posts" -- it will return to "top stories" (in which Facebook decides what you want to see) every time you re-visit the page, and periodically as you are browsing.
These days I only use Facebook to participate in groups. I hardly ever post to my own wall, and I seldom spend any time looking at anyone else's wall.

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

My favorite thing to do on Facebook is to go on the Applied Evolutionary Psych Society web page in the morning and ban people who've posted off-topic stuff. (I'm President, so I'm an administrator on the page.)
Yes, I'm a small and petty person, but I love it like I love lottery scratchers. (Which I only buy on rare occasions when I need to go to the liquor store for half 'n' half, because it makes no statistical sense.)

On the odd occasion I buy lottery I just consider it a fun way to donate to the schools

It is the small things in life that matter most! Ha!

Amy, your bra size would be more interesting than 90% of what I see posted on Facebook.

I had that, too! It was so strange. It was the anniversary of a family member's death and the first time it dinged I mistook it for the sound of the chime on the Buddhist altar in the other room-I was totally creeped out for a minute, I thought perhaps the morning offerings weren't up to snuff!
