The Idiots In High Positions In Our Government And Their Deadly And Idiotic PC
A person doesn't have a civil right to immigrate to our country.
But while Homeland "Security" honcho Jeh Johnson supervises the repurposed mall food court workers violating Americans' civil liberties at airports, he gets all weepy about the civil liberties of Syrians and others trying to migrate to the U.S. from Terrorism Central.
Kristina Wong writes at The Hill:
Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson decided against ending a secret U.S. policy that prohibits immigration officials from reviewing social media posts of foreigners applying for U.S. visas, according to a report by ABC News.Johnson decided to keep the prohibition in place in early 2014 because he feared a civil liberties backlash and "bad public relations," according to ABC.
"During that time period immigration officials were not allowed to use or review social media as part of the screening process," John Cohen, a former acting undersecretary at the Department of Homeland Security for intelligence and analysis, told ABC News.
As Mickey Kaus tweeted:
@kausmickey If not this, is there any bad decision Jeh Johnson could make that would require him to resign?
One of my concerns about this administration is that they have done just about zero to protect civil liberties in this country. Now here you go proving me wrong.

Hah -- indeed.
Of course, they grope me -- Amy who has been railing about the dangers from the ideology of Islam for years -- while being afraid to violate the civil liberties of the lady from the terror zone, who posted on social media about her evil plans.

You got it wrong Canvasback.
Us citizens emails and social media were/are captured and reviewed. Only people outside wanting in were spared.
We already know Obama fears Christians/gun owners/GOP'ers. He's said so many times starting before he was elected as well as avoiding using the Christian word for people getting their heads cut off because they were Christians.
He does not fear Muslims. What emotion does that leave.

There's a bigger picture here, remember ISIS's goal is to create a Muslim vs Infidel world war and start the apocalypse.
Taking in a small number of refugees is a token gesture that does not significantly raise the risk of attacks, does not raise the risk of cultural change at all, and makes the US look like it cares, thus avoiding an us vs them scenario.
The refugee camps are huge pressure cookers, and some relief needs to happen there. They're prime recruiting grounds for cannon fodder and foot soldiers. They're also inspirational... middle class people look at them and are shocked by their ill-treatment and willing to fight on their behalf.
A lot of Syrian kids are having interrupted educations, I'm sure their are plenty of Madrasses wanting to fill the void.
Opening the floodgates like Germany is absurd, though there seem to be under the table deals where Turkey is now doing the dirty work of keeping people out, while Merkel and Germany get to look generous.
Even so, Germany has gone too far and endangered all of us in Schengen... just this past week we had the terror alert raised in Geneva, apparently something with explosives and possibly nerve gas is being planned. (And Switzerland isn't attacking anyone, so you can't blame it on that). Two Syrians have been arrested so far.
I believe in a moderate policy where you take in some refugees who are most at-risk... women, children, gays, elderly, etc. This is not foolproof, Mrs San Bernadino was married with a kid, but it helps the people who need it most while reducing (but not eliminating) risk.
I don't believe in taking in large numbers of young, single men. I don't believe in taking people in without a background check (again, not foolproof, we're talking risk reduction not risk elimination). I don't believe in taking in more numbers than you can assimilate, or can handle financially. Countries need to be honest about what they can handle.
To those who rant about how most terrorism is white, right-wing men, I say, sure. Obviously we already have enough terrorists. We don't need to import or create more. Let's find a balance between reducing the circumstances that create terrorism, and reducing the odds we accidentally import one.
Supporting the removal of the dictators, crazy and brutal as they were, of the Pan-Arab-Socialist movement was a batshit insane move. We can only hope that the movement or something similar re-emerges.

I believe the subtlety of Canvasback's sarcasm may have slipped by.

"[Johnson] feared a civil liberties backlash and 'bad public relations'"
Bad public relations? What the hell is he talking about?
