Oxford University students have said they want to cut ties with the National Union of Students after it elected a woman accused of anti-Semitism as president.
Four of Oxford’s six NUS delegates have said they want to push for a university-wide vote on disaffiliation, the student newspaper Cherwell reported.
All too often, well-endowed public sector unions can tip the balance too far in the opposite direction, prioritizing the privileges of well-connected union members over the needs of the public that pays their salaries. As the Marshall Project piece suggests, the union-negotiated deal the concentrates inexperienced officers in high-crime areas makes Chicagoans—especially poor Chicagoans—worse off overall.
The C-130 just never dies. Why? Because almost no other aircraft can do what the Herc does best: reliably haul outsized loads into and out of short, rough airstrips in the middle of nowhere.
"They obviously did its design right," says Tom Wetherall, director of LM-100J Business Development for Lockheed Martin. "It's been in production for 60 years. It's got a high-wing. It's a turboprop. The engines and propellers are out of harm's way... The straight wing yields the efficiency to get in and out of dirt runways, to get the weight off the wheels as soon as possible. The fuselage is low to the ground at truck-bed height, which combines with the rear loading capability. It's a configuration that's second to none."
The first C-130 rolled out in 1954. Since then, Lockheed has built more than 2,500 at its Georgia assembly plant. More than ten variants of the airplane, including AC-130 gunships and WC-130 weather reconnaissance aircraft, serve U.S. and global militaries.
As I recall, it was in hurricane Gilbert when a WC-130 from the 53rd weather reconnaissance squadron encountered a 9g updraft. And survived.

Brennan is a character who, viewers have been told for 11 seasons, values reason and “objective truth” over what she perceives as dogma. Thus, it’s in her character that the scientist would agree with some of the MRA objectives — if an idea sounds logical to her, she will concur, no matter the source.
"The government and fossil fuel groups had asked the court to toss out the federal case, but Judge Thomas Coffin on Friday denied those requests."

Kids sue Obama over climate change damage and government inaction.
Wondering how the conserve-a-nothings will spin this one.
