Two American Women, Two Very Different Fates: Hillary Clinton Scott-Free; Ebony Conner Arrested For Not Cutting Her Grass
Hillary Clinton jeopardized national security multiple times with her cavalier and illegal use of her own server for her email, and she is scott free.
A mother in St. Louis, on the other hand, was arrested for -- yes -- not cutting her grass and also not moving some broken-down cars from her driveway. Not fast enough, anyway.
Sure, there are zoning laws and all, but we need to be very careful about who we throw in cages and why.
Courtney Bryant and Ashlee Carlstrom write at KMOV:
CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) - A single mother of five in Cahokia is left reeling after her arrest for failing to cut her grass.Ebony Conner is a mother of five and says she is not entirely sure why she was arrested. But she says the only explanation is a complaint from the Village of Cahokia listing failure to cut her grass.
"I'm from the State of Wisconsin, I've lived in St. Louis, Missouri and I've never heard of being arrested for grass," said Conner.
Conner says she was given a verbal warning by a code enforcement officer at the end of June to cut her grass, remover trash and tow derelict cars from her driveway.
But Conner says she thought she would have had more time to correct the issues.
"I understand I violated a code but take the channels, give me a ticket first, make me appear in court. I know there's gotta be channels other than if you don't cut your grass, we're arresting you right now," said Conner.
She's exactly right -- and luckily, she was only jailed for 30 minutes, though her children were left alone during her arrest.
Often, when poor people are jailed on some bullshit offense -- or just an offense that does not endanger others in any way -- it means that they lose their job, their home, and their children.
I'm very worried about the direction this country is going -- very anti-liberty -- and how few people seem to notice or care.
They will care -- when, to their surprise, it finally affects them.
But for that not to happen, we all need to start caring now and having that drive the sort of candidates we vote for and the way political parties are run in this country.
About that, I have tried to ignore the political process going on now to some degree -- as much as that's possible while being a person who's interested in news and politics -- because I find it heartbreaking that we have only a corrupt, petulant child and a corrupt adult as our choice for President.
Oh, and don't forget the Libertarian candidate -- though that's wildly easy to do, as he's basically the walking chalk outline of somebody with a personality. (Thanks, Libertarian party -- nobody there could figure out that this was the year to put somebody forward with at least a little charisma?)

You keep posting this crap about Hillary: we get it. Not voting for ger, she should be in prison. You are the one still saying you'll vote for her. Have you convinced yourself not to, yet?
momof4 at July 11, 2016 7:10 AM
Fortunately Amy's vote is worthless. Hillary cannot lose California. She'd carry it from a prison cell.
Next time, it'll be different.

As I said before, I'll get outraged about Hillary's email server when the republicans call for Colin Powell to be arrested for using AOL to send his classified emails. And no, email was not some new, barely used technology in the 2000's.
JoJo at July 11, 2016 7:53 AM
Yes JoJo, lots of people have done BADDDDD things.
Bush, Rice, and on and on. This makes everything HRC did OKAY. WE GET IT.
She, Bill, and Chelsea are worth EVERY $100,000 they've ever received (I'm sure Chelsea was worth $600,000 for that part-time job at NBC), and we who think differently or wonder about the Clinton Foundation are just bitter racists.
We are so fixated on our dislike for the Clintons that we are making mountains out of molehills ("exceedingly careless", using Blackberries in countries we/she knew were capable of hacking them, and so on).
BUT those BUSH' were the ruination of Western Civilization. TERRIBLE.
So HRC (being a woman and not a Bush) is what this country needs.
We should listen to those of you that know better.

One of the big problems causing resentment in Ferguson was that the city was stopping people for minor traffic things and giving tickets, as well as fining people for lack of yard upkeep etc. As Amy mentioned, a $500 fine can be a catastrophe if you are poor.
People can have trouble coping if they are old, sick, mentally unstable, going through divorce, working 2 jobs, etc. They will be unable to maintain their yard nicely or get that tail light fixed. The suburbs are not a baseline for acceptable behavior because the population is self-selected as those together enough to make enough money to live there. The great thing in my mind about rural areas is that they allow trailer parks for those barely making it and tolerate the guy who collects old tractors (as seen on TV antique shows). Why not?

Jojo,
I know you don't want to hear this, but it has already been explained to you that Rice and Powell were operating under a pre-email set of rules; rules which were changed to reflect the greater use of e-mail; rules which Hillary blatantly broke. Rice and Powell conformed to the rules in effect when they were Secretary of State. Hillary did not.
In addition, neither Rice nor Powell used a private server located in their basements and neither of them used non-State e-mail providers exclusively, as Hillary did.
You, and the other Democrats repeating ad nauseam the "Republicans did it too" canard are comparing apples to oranges. Hillary broke the rules, broke the law, and endangered national security.
From Brietbart:
From The Washington Post:
Hillary flat out broke the rules, and knew she was doing so at the time.
Conan the Grammarian at July 11, 2016 9:06 AM
Jojjo: I will share your outrage over Powell and defens of HRC:
-Just as soon as I discover that Colin Powell kept a private server in his basement
-Just as soon as HRC satisfactorily explains that deletion of 30,000 emails is not the same thing as the deletion of 18 minutes of audio tape as Nixon did. HRC worked on the committee to impeach Nixon. I wonder if she understands irony ?
-Just as soon as HRC explains that it is o.k. to task her lawyers with deleting her email when those lawyers did NOT have the necessary security clearances to handle classified material.

As I said before, I'll get outraged about Hillary's email server when the republicans call for Colin Powell to be arrested for using AOL to send his classified emails.
I'll see your indignation and ask if you'll be pissed off if a Republican cabinet officer uses a personal email server to avoid having to answer Freedom of Information Act requests?
Then there's the minor problem that Hillary was supposed to turn over all relevant material and documents 30 (or is it 60?) days after leaving State. Missed that by about, oh, two years.

As Amy mentioned, a $500 fine can be a catastrophe if you are poor.
Or if you're just not thinking longer term. For instance, and large number of people simply can't scrape up $400 for an emergency:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/05/25/the-shocking-number-of-americans-who-cant-cover-a-400-expense/
Depending on circumstances one should have enough savings in an emergency fund to cover 3 to 6 months of expenses.
After reading that report, if it is accurate, a smart lawyer should be able to make the Village of Cahokia cry uncle relatively quickly. Because I'm wondering according to what statute such an arrest and detention is made legal.
I R A Darth Aggie at July 11, 2016 10:28 AM
Oh, I also lived in Cahokia for a couple of years in the early 80s. I wasn't terribly sad to see "Welcome to Cahokia" in the rear view mirror...

There is no U.S. jurisdiction in which "Well, I'm hardly the first person who ever robbed a bank!" or "Lots of other people have committed fraud, too, so go after them first and then you can come after me!" are defenses to crimes.

As I like to say, "Justice rarely happens chronologically."

Google "Clinton Dead Pool", and see how many people have DIED after doing business with Billary. Why is none of this being mentioned in the mainstream? Obviously, the elections are rigged well in advance.
It does bring to mind the definition of insanity: Voting every four years, and hoping for a different result.

Craig, what kind of an area do you live in?

"Then there's the minor problem that Hillary was supposed to turn over all relevant material and documents 30 (or is it 60?) days after leaving State. Missed that by about, oh, two years."
Actually, she still hasn't complied, and she has made it clear that she has no intent of complying. Her team deleted a large percentage of the emails on the grounds that they were of a "personal" nature. In the FOIA world, it doesn't matter; if the email was sent using a government system (or a stand-in for one), it's government property.
Cousin Dave at July 12, 2016 8:45 AM
jd asks what kind of area I live in. I was just thinking of rural areas in oh, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, California, the South...anywhere.
I don't think it should be illegal to be a disorganized slob. I don't want to live next door, but they have a right to live somewhere.
