Let's Perp-Walk That Honor Student For Cutting A Peach With A Toddler's Utensil Set Knife
This case and so many others like it is a sign -- that we've hired drooling morons to create the school rules and culture.
Michael Seiden writes for Local10:
Ronald and Andrea Souto told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden that their 11-year-old daughter was suspended for six days for bringing the knife to school."This is a set of a spoon, fork and knife for toddlers -- one year old," Andrea Souto said. "It is made for children to learn how to eat properly. She's used it since she was baby."
According to the school district, the girl violated the county's weapon policy when she used her butter knife in the cafeteria to cut the peach.
"The friend asked for half of the peach and she cuts half of the peach and gives to her friend. She goes to the bathroom and comes back and the guy said, 'Follow me,'" Ronald Souto said.
And this is the best. The Pembroke Pines cops have turned the case over to the State's Attorney.
Hmm...do you think she should be sentenced to life without parole? Maybe the electric chair?
For the record, I took a knife to school probably on most days. A sharp little apple paring knife. I have yet to stab anything but food.
Yes, that's right. Even with all that access to dangerous weaponry, I remain merely hostile, not violent.

God forbid a child brandishes a spork in that insane asylum.

After carrying my rifle on the schoolbus, I used to leave it in the vice-principal's office only because it was too long to fit in my locker.
That was then.

I just don't understand why there is no ACLU, EFF, or other public interest law firm dedicated to fighting zero tolerance nonsense.
jerry at November 20, 2016 11:08 PM
@Jerry:
F.I.R.E. and The Thomas Moore Society will, occasionally, take these types of cases. However, usually their attorneys are providing representation pro bono, so they tend to avoid cases that are fee generating. When constitutional rights are denied by state or local government employees acting under color of state law, a claim is stated under the general constitutional tort law, Title 42 U.S. Code Sec. 1982. If the claim is meritorious, attorney fees ( which can exceed the award), are awarded under 42 U.S.C. Sec. 1988. As such Civil Rights lawsuits are fairly straightforward, and attorney fees will be awarded if plaintiff is successful - even if only in being a motivation for policy changes, no damages award is necessary - finding an experienced attorney to take the case isn't a problem, so that there isn't much reason for public interest legal organizations to get involved and use their limited resources.

FIRE only takes campus free speech violation cases.

A full page ad in the local paper might work wonders.

How else can you get an entire generation paranoid about guns, besides constantly telling children that even tiny knives are horrible evil killing machines.
Joe j at November 21, 2016 7:36 AM
When people ban guns in school and then call a poptart chewed into that shape a "gun", they have formally lost their minds. Same here.
In England, they have so thoroughly banned knives that you can't go on a picnick with one, and tradesmen have a terrible time and often get arrested.
Interestingly, in the US more people are killed by bare hands than by rifles. (saw it on a crime stats report from FBI but sorry can't find it now). Ban hands!!

I also thought of that CC. It is amazing they don't try to make us wear padlocked mittens when we board an airplane.

They suspended that little girl for only six days. Then she'll be right back in that fenced-in, totalitarian compound her parents think is a school, being conditioned by neurotic, PC propagandists who are cognitively unable to discern a qualitative difference between a Hello Kitty Bubble Gun Fun Toy and an assault rifle, or between a toddler's butter knife and a samurai sword.
And then school officials called the cops! And the cops, instead of laughing out loud in the face of the school officials, have turned the case over to the State's Attorney! What the hell is wrong with them?
It would have been better for the girl if they'd expelled her permanently. The less time she spends in that psychotic institution the better off she'll be.

Jerry, the ACLU does indeed take on "zero tolerance" policies in schools.

"she used her butter knife in the cafeteria to cut the peach."
Good Lord! Are they THAT paranoid about knives that they don't know a dull knife (such as a butter knife) is more dangerous to cut with than a sharp knife?
charles at November 21, 2016 5:37 PM
Thanks Kevin, but I mean dedicated so that everyone knows their name and knows who to call.
jerry at November 21, 2016 9:24 PM
Remember this TSA knife story?
Patrick Smith, in Delta pilot uniform was relieved of the butter knife Delta gives you on the plane because he might take over the plane he was flying already.
Radwaste at November 22, 2016 7:45 AM
However remember the ACLU. Has a pretty left wing view on gun rights.
