Assholes In The Post-Bataclan, Post-Hebdo Era
A 25-year-old Parisian brat with a Porsche was going to a nightclub and couldn't find a parking space. In Paris, taxis line up at stations -- taxi queues -- and the guy ended up dumping his car off in the queue, hazard lights flashing and going off for the evening.
From the Independent's Rory Mulholland, here's how this works post Hebdo, Bataclan, and the rest:
He later decided he had too much to drink and took a taxi home. But police, who are on the lookout for possible car bombs after a spate of terror attacks in France over the past year and a half that left more than 200 dead, called in bomb disposal experts when they spotted the suspicious vehicle.
...When the bomb disposal experts arrived at the black Porsche late morning last Friday, they were taking no chances.
They attached a small amount of explosives to its bonnet and blew it open before ascertaining that there was no bomb in the vehicle.
Olivier arrived at the scene a short time later and was astounded - and furious - to find his sports car badly damaged.

Presume this was a 911 (or a Panamera)... that trick wouldn't have worked with a Boxster.

Terrorists tend to come from affluent backgrounds:

This has been know for years, but politicians eager to grow government while avoiding taking actual action against terrorism pretended terrorism could be countered by integration, jobs, and education.
Kudos to the nations of the Visegrad Group, who decided the only way to fight back is to close the borders to migrants. Curiously, these nations experience almost no Islamist terrorism.

As the owner of the car I hope they put him in jail while they investigated him.
As we found out in San Bernadino, Ca. "PC vetting" (no looking at social media) is not effective. People die. Of course, no one cares for them.

The article says it was a Carrera S. So, 911.
The boxer is mid-engined. Blowing the front bonnet off would provide access to the deeper trunk (car has 2 trunks), spare tire, and the battery compartment.
The 911 is rear-engined. Blowing the front bonnet off would provide access to the trunk (boot in British) and whatever of the engine is located in the trunk (e.g., BMW 540i had the battery in the trunk).
The Panamera is front-engined. Blowing the bonnet off would provide access to the engine compartment. With the engine spooned in, it would be hard to hide a significant amount of explosives in there.
I'm assuming here that the Paris police knew where the engine was and were looking for explosives packed in the most likely area (i.e., the trunk or boot).
No matter the vehicle make, the owner was an idiot.

While I understand the inconvenience for the taxi drivers and the police, I'm not terribly heartbroken by one more Porsche-less prick.

Stupid auto-correct. I typed Boxster and it "corrected" it.

Good story but it needs a tagline.
How about "The Medical Examiner has since determined that the Porsche's owner died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries sustained when the taxi drivers threw him into oncoming traffic."

My driver re-training instructor showed our class a great pic of a SoCal BMW parked next to a fire hydrant. Its windows had been knocked out by firefighters so they could run their hose through the car... hard to just drive off like that! Plenty of water would run out of the hose-- and into the car-- when it got disconnected.
