CU Riverside student Edith Macias stole a "Make American Great Again" hat from fellow student Matthew Vitale and refused to return it, instead storming the Student Services office, demanding that Vitale be punished for wearing the hat and forbidden from wearing it on campus again.
Instead, in an uncharacteristically reasonable response (considering it was a California college), Student Services returned the hat to its rightful owner. And to her shock and dismay, Edith Macias was met by campus police as she attempted to leave.
At first, Vitale was going to let the incident go, as he was under the impression that the theft was a misdemeanor. However, since the hat was actually removed from his person, it rises to the level of grand theft, and Vitale decided to press charges. And the DA has decided to prosecute. Macias is facing up to a year in jail.
For those who haven't followed the incident I mentioned in my previous post, here is the original video of the incident, as recorded by Matthew Vitale, the victim.
Macias also posted her own video of the incident, from the time she stole the hat and ran off with it. She has since taken the video down.

And just to give Crid something to bitchwhine about, I'll post one more link regarding this incident.
I would post a link to the petition, but I can no longer see it. I filled it out myself, using an obviously bogus name, explaining at length in the comments section why I disagreed with every one of their demands. I wish I had saved the text of their statement of solidarity with Macias. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that once I signed the petition I would no longer be able to see it.
I only remember pointing out that it isn't the college's job to protect students from the consequences of their own stupidity should they choose to break the law, and that the college couldn't protect Macias from the legal consequences, even if they wanted to.
"Without me, you're nothing. You should thank me on this special American day."
If Crid posts a comment online and no one reads it, is he still a wonderfully capable writer often devoid of reason?

“My review of the law would lead to my recommendation that this woman retain an attorney as soon as she can. It would appear she may have violated the TX statute. The same for anyone who distributed the images/video, and especially those who posted,” Zaid said. “Candidly I hope Cong. Barton pursues this further than just an investigation by Capitol police, especially through litigation against InfoWars (they posted the masturbation video).” Zaid notes he is basing his opinion on available facts, and, of course, the opinion may change if more information becomes available.
I for sure hope he sues the people responsible for posting those pictures. But let's be honest, he won't go forward with it in hopes for it to die down quietly.

That’s according to new research published this week by the US National Academy of Sciences that poses big questions about how the US agricultural sector can be changed and improved in the future, to mitigate climate change without causing deleterious effects on the population’s overall health. The bottom line: going 100% vegan would be catastrophic.
Note that the guy had no business changing lanes anyway.

I predict that the coroner will testify that his death was Suicided by natural causes because it's only natural to die of such wound.
Slain Baltimore homicide Detective Sean Suiter was scheduled to testify before a federal grand jury in the case against a squad of indicted officers on the day after he was shot, Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said Wednesday evening.
Here's a thread I started a while back about the video/book "The Great Dinosaur Mystery" in the sci-fi newsgroup. (I can only hope the creators of the short video were properly insulted by my choice of newsgroup.)
Mpetrie, I find it pretty weird that the CT researchers in the first article didn't mention the elephant in the room - earning power or potential earning power. Supposedly, at least, women are quite willing to ignore unattractive looks - ad even age, somewhat - in favor of money. (Why would anyone old enough to marry NOT think about that when dating?)

And re Sleeping Beauty - of course bans are dumb. The real issue is: Are modern parents too lazy or cowardly to talk about annoying, boring facts to kids - namely, that when you're little, you have to ask permission of either your parents or other people to do almost ANYTHING that little thoughtless kids might want to do? Not to mention the very important message that no, you can't have or even expect instant gratification (or candy) on a daily basis, and if you don't like that, you need to watch less TV and read fewer fairy tales, maybe?
Disney itself addressed this in "Frozen." For those who don't know, the main message was "you can't marry someone you just met." In the same vein, you can't claim you "love" a practical stranger, except in the most immature sense - and you can't expect anyone who's forced to marry you to love you either, though that's not part of "Frozen."
That said, I'd be only too glad to see schools making a subtle effort to keep ALL Disney books out of the schools, if only because the writing style is typically dumb, most of them send the OPPOSITE message of "Frozen," and they obviously take away from any hope of diversity, if only when it comes to the drawing style. Kids can't escape the books anyway - why make things worse for them?
Not to mention (slightly OT) that I would cringe at the thought of reading Andersen's "The Little Match Girl" out loud to any modern urban kids - chances are they KNOW that homeless people still freeze to death on streets sometimes, so why would I want to glamorize that? (I enjoyed reading it to MYSELF as a kid, but I never even saw homeless people until I was older than ten.)

Students on campus sympathetic to Macias created a petition, arrogantly demanding that the school protect Macias, who apparently has been doxxed and threatened since the incident.
I would post a link to the petition, but I can no longer see it.
