I'm the kind of sarcastic bastard that would go up to then and ask why we couldn't hold the conference is a space safe enough to to require the presence of jackbooted thugs such as themselves

The wearers of "Safe AGU" would probably call for "some muscle" to remove lujlp and give a good beating.
Remember your sarcasm is violence and it is perfectly acceptable to punch a Nazi, which you clearly are Xer Jackboot.

So even the geekery is becoming this pathetic?
Wow. Even us nerds had better things to do back in the day.

The day someone comes up with a self-cleaning sexbot is going to be the day humanity will go extinct.

After the ruckus following Rebecca whatever, because she couldn't handle an approach in an elevator, I'm not surprised to find the nerds fragile.

It is mostly the academic groups. Things are a bit calmer in the corporate world. Or at least less obviously idiotic. Also the IT guys still have it worse than the rock heads. But I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this at the ASME or the IEEE. They all run in the same circles as the AGU.

Yeah, the IEEE and the ACM have both been moving in that direction for a long time. That's one reason I'm no longer a member.

I never joined. I never really saw the value in them. But I'm not a PHD. I work with small companies and am in a relatively odd field. Nothing I use is actually within manufacturer specs. So a bunch of papers that half detail some nice ideas just doesn't bring much to the table for me. My dad on the other hand is part of the SEG and a number of other acronymed groups. For his career that was very important and brought a lot of value.
