I don't trust Mpet links, but apparently one of the contraindicators for C19 is current tobacco use. Also, men are twice as likely to die of it as are women.

If you correct for the general death imbalance between men and women at a given age both genders die from C19 at the same rate. It is just that men over 60 are already twice as likely to die as women over 60.
