Sexism Is The New Equality
Why *should* women make up 50% of residents in these specialities?
— Amy Alkon (@amyalkon) August 1, 2020
"Surgical residencies lag behind nonsurgical programs in attracting women." Attracting!
Kindergarten teaching & veterinary lag behind oil rig wk & trash collec in attracting men. Nobody's bosom-heaving over it! https://t.co/v7O83IkKJD
Why might non-surgical attract more women than surgical fields? As I noted in my science-based column, women tend to prioritize balanced lives in a way men do not.
And another bit from a later tweet:
What's the answer to this "problem"...forcing women to go into medical specialties that don't interest them?
— Amy Alkon (@amyalkon) August 1, 2020
Maybe it isn't a "problem" at all. Maybe the problem is the unscientific, sexist nonthink driving the assumption that 50% of doctors must be women or...or...horrors! https://t.co/MFFayvxQwC
Finally: The notion that having 50% people with vaginas (is that what we're calling it now?) is the right way to hire doctors means we're choosing based on something other than medical acumen. Thanks, I'll take the doc who's the best, even if this person lacks labia.

I am wholly surprised at the alleged paucity of female surgeons.
I regularly see women arguing about the best way to a man's heart.
Ow!

Why don't we just have women do all of the jobs, and then have communism redistribute the wealth? That would really show the Patriarchy - make women into the domestic and public sphere labor class. Imagine how much free time men would have to play video games, drink whiskey, shoot guns, and engage in seditious thought.
Recalling what Nancy Pelosi said when selling Obamacare, think of all the possibilities for creatives and artists and especially the gay men to just enrich the culture while the women labor and the government redistributes it! Bam, Patriarchy, you're dead!

I believe the current word is cervix, not vajayjay.
And yes, we must force people into occupations or fields of study they do not want. For diversity!

Wait till you have to go for surgery by a surgeon who hates her work and hates you, too.

In order to justify hiring more bean counters, the powers that be need to create more opportunities to count beans.

Surgical specialties require advanced and arduous training--and I'm glad. Female doctors are already in school so long that they risk getting too old for having children (sorry about injecting biology into a political argument). Add several more years to that? they say no thanks.
But yes, feminists want women to have all the safe, high-paying jobs.

I will go to any woman orthopedic surgeon who can prove that she has the upper body strength of even an average man.
I don't even want to imagine a woman trying to set a displaced hip or shoulder, or set a broken femur.
I worked in a hospital for many years, I saw several skilled woman surgeons, but by midday they were wiped out, while their male colleagues kept on going until late at night. No matter what the feminists claim, women are not men's equals, they do not have the upper body strength nor the stamina of men and require more sleep than men. Most women are incapable of maintaining the same OR schedule and call schedule as men.
The increase of woman MDs has resulted in a precipitous decline in physician availability because women either will not or cannot work the same number of hours and see the same number of patients that their male colleagues do, and women also go part time sooner and retire earlier than men. (Women MDs as soon as they realize that being a doctor is brutally demanding, want to marry a rich man who can pay off their student loans, and strt having babies so they have an excuse to drop out of the work force.)
I do not want a woman doctor, because I know she will not be available for emergencies, or if she is, her level of after hours performance will not be the equal of a man's.
Sorry, feminista honeys, there are very real biologically determined differences between men and women, which mean that once out of school, women perform at a lesser level than men in most medical specialties.

Jack M,
How DARE you bring inconvenient facts into the discussion? Don't you know that feelings are much more important than the truth?
Now, go and sin no more, you naughty, naughty man.

There is a stat you'll see occasionally, which I've seen avoided but not refuted - that within 6 years of graduation 3/4 of female physicians are working part time. That results in 500 fewer hours per year worked than male physicians. These figures come up when people cite the fact that female physicians make substantially less than male physicians, on average.
The other major factor is practice area, which gets to Amy's point.
Also Jack Turban is a notorious research launderer in the area of Transgender Medicine - he's very gung ho towards the idea of transitioning minors and has been caught publishing some very questionable studies. You can find reviews of his 'research' online.

Notice the phrasing on this. It's up to the specialties to "attract" women. That they failed to do so is why women are not surgeons in equal numbers to men.
The fault, dear Brutus, is not in those fields, but in the women themselves, that they are underlings.

A couple of years ago, I attended a panel at Dragoncon in the Sciences track called, "Women in the Sciences". The least accomplished lady of the five on stage had two doctorates, in electronics and electrical engineering.
Not once did they mention lowering standards, "diversity", quotas or anything of the sort. They preferred to concentrate on parental encouragement at the middle school level, on the idea that talent will be sought, and that was preferable in their fields to forcing the unqualified into place.

I just found this posting.
I took early retirement from medical practice.
The major reason was not waning to deal with the frustrations and inefficiencies imposed by my clinics adopting a EMR without any end user input.
One of the many minor reasons, was the increase in women physicians in the practice, and the fact they do not pull their weight. I got tired of having to cover for their child care and personal emergencies; they started vanishing from the clinic at 2 or 3 in the afternoon, and it was up to their male colleagues to take up the slack and work until 8 or 9 or 10 or even 11 pm to take up the slack. Needless to say the Medical Staff Office fully supported the absentee women doctors, while any male physician who did not cover for them was fired and professionally blackballed as being uncooperative and anti family (hey what about my family and marriage, or is it only caring about the distaff side that matters in today's PC anti male political climate?). I won't even go into the time wasting bickering and meeting time wasted on non essential matters once the meetings are woman dominated.
I dread the future when I am old and really need medical care, in what most likely will be a close approximation of an idiocracy.
