No Mom Left Behind
Is the world flat? Well, one of The View's new cohosts -- a 40-year-old woman with a child and a megabucks job speaking to millions and millions of people on national TV -- really couldn't say.

This frightens me.

The earth is round, right. Next you'll be telling me fire can melt steel!
Jim Treacher at September 20, 2007 6:28 AM
I think the idiot woman's defence is even more depressing. It's an over-scripted, fake charm reeking soundbite in which she tries to claim the original question left her flustered:

Anybody seen Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or any of those who usually scream racism at every turn? Oops, seems this woman grew up in what sounds like a nice, middle-class suburb of Chicago.

Who do we blame for this...maybe her?
Amy Alkon at September 20, 2007 7:22 AM
. . . and that's three minutes of my life I'll never get back.
Its amazing to me that someone like Walters, who came up as the only female newswriter-turned-anchor, would come up with something this banal. I understand that the View is a successful show, so I hope she's getting paid well, but man - what a waste.
snakeman99 at September 20, 2007 7:37 AM
How do you reach that age and not know if you think that the earth is round? I'm almost at a loss for words. Her poor kids.
jaylyn at September 20, 2007 9:41 AM
Well, thankfully she only has one child so far. She should really have stuck with the sitcoms, her characters are more believable than she is! o_O
Flynne at September 20, 2007 9:49 AM
That was pathetic. I hope this is not a reflection of the American public at large...
Toubrouk at September 20, 2007 12:37 PM
Unfortunatly it is, and most are dumber and far more close minded
lujlp at September 20, 2007 1:42 PM
95% of all humans are absolute idiots. If breathing wasn't involuntary, they'd suffocate.
brian at September 20, 2007 2:22 PM
brian your assessment has ticked up 5% from last week.
I think her original point, poorly, POORLY made was that a person can have a very full and modern life and never have a practical need to know the shape of the rock we are standing on.
Her attempt at damage control was obviously staged and heavily coached.
"The View" appears to be floundering.

Name your percentile.

That's about the only time you ever see 'em.
Well, thankfully she only has one child so far.
...and it came from a stork!
Doobie at September 20, 2007 9:06 PM
Every skoolboy know the world is round ... but how do you know? Just 'cos you read it in a book?
Norman at September 21, 2007 1:37 AM
crid - 95. I'm walking the line between smart and stupid.
brian at September 21, 2007 6:14 AM
That be a very thin line, brian. I'd go with a 92 percentile, myself. There are some out there smart enough to take advantage of all the stoopid ones! Did you see the vidoe of the Miss Teenage America contestant who was trying to explain why the majority of students can't find this country on a map? Her answer was so convoluted it wasn't an answer! o_O
Flynne at September 21, 2007 8:17 AM
ACK!! VidEo!>_
Flynne at September 21, 2007 8:19 AM
yet another reason to kill your t.v. I can't believe anyone watches this crap on a daily basis!!
dub at September 21, 2007 8:48 AM
Flynne - I suspect that unfortunate young lady (who is now working for The Donald) was simply regurgitating whatever spew her handlers downloaded into her brain.
But the program got crossed up and it all came out as gibberish.
As far as TV goes, all I watch are the Yankees (Sox are goin DOWN!), Discovery, TLC, History, and Food. Not much stupid there, unless Farnsworth is pitching again.
brian at September 21, 2007 10:28 AM
> 95. I'm walking the line
Yeah yeah yeah, everyone likes to pretend they're just on the savvy side of the Great Deception... So while they feel tremendous empathy for the brothers and sisters in Valley of Wretched Foolishness, they can't actually relate to the poor saps.
I fuckin' hate that. Fuckin' hate it.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there, Brian. I know, surprise, surprise. With the exception of Alton Brown and Iron Chef America, the Food TV Network is painful to watch anymore.
Rebecca at September 21, 2007 1:34 PM
Well, Rebecca, you've mentioned the only two shows on Food (other than the AB specials Feasting on Asphalt) that I watch on Food.
Gotta love the TiVo.
