Amy's Bookshelf
Excellent books I've read recently, or am reading:
Mistakes Were Made (but not by me), by Tavris and Aronson
The Stuff Of Thought, by Steven Pinker
Predictably Irrational, by Dan Ariely
The How Of Happiness, by Sonja Lyubomirsky
Rendezvous In Black, by Cornell Woolrich

I'd recommend Stumbling on Happiness for those who haven't read it. I know this field. The science is well-reported and not dumbed down much. Despite the title, it's not a self-help book; it's more about errors in our emotional cognition.

The How Of Happiness is actually about data on what you can do to be happy. It's very good. I did a panel with Sonja at LAT Festival of Books and also know the work in this area pretty well.
Mistakes Were Made is about errors in rationality due to emotion.

They both sound like good reads; something to consider for the next Amazon order. Thanks!

I read Mistakes Were Made on Amy's recommendation (thanks), seriously enjoyed it (although it's not a straight-through read it's quite readable), and got a new understanding of cognitive dissonance. I hope the How of Happiness does likewise with its subject matter.

Hi amy. Just wanted to chime in for a moment. I picked up The How of Happiness this past weekend. I enjoyed it and am recommending it to several friends who prefer their How to's and Helps with references and citations. Thanks.
