"When This Old World Starts Getting You Down..."
My kinda roof. Even on a gray day. Or, actually, especially on a gray day.
Taken in February, on the Métro, crossing the Seine from the Left Bank to the Right.

Beautiful! Thank you.

I don't mind days like that. I love them, in fact. Especially when you have nothing to do.
Sit by a window with a comforter, a cup of coffee and a paperback and listen to the rain.
365 days a year of hot and sunny is not as great as I thought it would be.

I agree Redpretzel.
I love a good mix of weather types but I've always been partial to these types of dreary days. They don't really depress me. If every other Saturday were like this I'd be happy (and alternates 80 and sunny...hah).
It gives you an excuse to do laundry (woo hoo for clean sheets!) and curl up with a movie, an excellent pizza and bottle of bone-warming red...
When it's nice all the time I feel obligated to go do something. As in "it's going to be snowing again before we know it. (*panic*) Screw the litter box! Screw the fact my fridge is empty! I *have* to go to the beach!" It's like a law or something.

I find myself listening to lots of BB, Buddy, Muddy, and all the old Blues masters. These hard times can't last us so long.

That is called desert.

I recommend Umbrellas in Cherbourg (French, Catherine Deneuve), Breaking the Waves (Emily Watson) or Piano (Holly Hunter). They all are really pretty but bittersweet movies, which are perfect in rainy days.

Chick films?
Chick films?????
Crid [cridcridatgmail] at July 11, 2008 12:44 PM
The day might not be depressing, but I think those movies would make me slit my wrists! I'm a sucker for Carrie Ann Moss in the first Matrix, Edward Norton in Fight Club or when I'm feeling "chick-ey", I'll totally destroy any credibility I might have here by admitting, I enjoy 1978's Grease.

"Chick films?"
I am not afraid of showing my feminine side.
"The day might not be depressing, but I think those movies would make me slit my wrists! "
I recommend "The Hours (Nicole Kidman) or "Dancer in the Dark (Bjork)". The heroines do not slit their wrists but exit this world without compromising their values.
I would say they are as tough as the characters in Fight Club, which is one of my favorite.

I live in Los Angeles and had always felt fortunate to have grown up where the weather is the envy of many. Then I moved to New England for a few years and discovered the joy of the change of seasons. Now that I'm back I yearn for the chilly winter days, beautiful bloom-filled springs, mild summers and gorgeous autumns. Retirement will bring a move.

A view of the Eiffel Tower goes so well with the smell of Paris diesel in the morning (and the rest of the day and night).
