A moving story
The first part of it reminded me of a graphic novel called Persepolis. If you aren't familiar with it, it's an autobiography of a young girl growing up as Iran changed.

I'm pretty sure Persepolis has been made into an animated movie.

Persepolis is indeed an animated movie. It draws an excellent parallel to the childhood confusion of identity and loyalty that Sajadi illustrates with her column.

It is always saddening to read about the women who lived in Iran during the revolution. How their lives changed so dramatically from full of richness to despair and terror. I enjoyed "Lolita in Tehran".
It would be interesting to read about the changes and how it affected men.
