See this is what I mean, my twitter page would be filled with nothing but entries following the them below
10pm
I just saw a listerine comercial. The guy was swishing it around in his mouth and it cut to a computer generated sceen of a purpule liquid man trasforming into a six jet sprinkler and rotating around inside his mouth.
As the bottom of the screen was the word "Dramitazation"
I swear to god I want to yank out some morons collar bone and stab them in the eye over and over with it.
Why is it illegal to kill stupid people? I mean seriously have we really sunk so fucking far that we have to tell people their mouthwash 'wont really' come to life and spin around the inside of their stupid faces all by its self?

Truth be told, I'm doing a web TV show -- in development on it and I love the company -- and they insist I do "social networking"...think it's integral to promoting the show.
Do you agree? Disagree?
I LOATHE Facebook with every bone in my body, and then all of those in Lucy's, too, and do not answer mail from there...yet there's no permanent thing I can put on there to tell people NEVER to e-mail me through Facebook. Twitter is the least odious, and rather fun, in fact, and, in fact, if I don't have to have a whole new black hole of e-mail coming to me...I'm thrilled.
The 140 character limit per post is especially attractive.
> The 140 character limit per post
> is especially attractive.
Who needs a limit? Why not just be, y'know, concise?
So that's you and Cosh and Welch, and this morning I finally went over there to establish an account, hoping all of you could be aggregated... But the page that searches for people to 'follow' couldn't find anyone named "amyalkon".
I think it's telling that Twitter is mostly fascinating to people who work in media, especially in the Silicon Valley... Maybe those tech guys aren't as long-winded as they seem.
Maybe I'm a generation too old, but I just don't see the point. Why would I want to post regular updates on my life - it may be interesting to me, but not to anyone else.
And the reverse: why would anyone be interested in twitterly updates about someone else's life, unless they are failing to live their own?
I just don't get it...

Well, some people have good, nugget-y insights. Maybe not very many people... but there are people in every medium –from the NY Times to the lowliest blog– who aren't worth paying attention to. And tweets are especially easy to ignore.
When trash TV in daytime was talking off, talk show host Phil Donahue offered a pretty convincing defense of the confrontational, petty, forgettable shows... Which struck me as a classy maneuver, considering that he essentially lost his job in the onslaught. (People forget how unpleasant Oprah was in those first years, before she started getting in to scented candles and everything.)
He said that basically, all the tabloid shows (Jerry Springer etc.) were just new sources of information. Maybe they weren't of interest to you now, but maybe they'd say something that meant a lot to you someday, and you'll be glad they're around, and meantime you could ignore them.
I've felt that way about new sources of information ever since. I think blogs are one of the greatest things to happen to leverage the expression of the common man in the last 200 years. Maybe every internet innovation won't be that good... But so what?
This isn't meant to argue with you too directly, Bradley, but I think it's disproportionate to imply that it will just be doing 'twitterly updates about someone else's life'... It could be emergency information or stock prices or gas prices or a deal on green peppers at certain grocery stores or North Korean missile launches. Who knows? Meanwhile we shouldn't begrudge the 12-year-old girls who want to complain that they had a boring Monday or whatever.

"it's a good tool for SEO. It's the best way I've found to generate traffic for my blog."
Well well, perhaps it's time this little piggy joined the horror of it all.
Don't forget about earthquakes and stuff. There was a 4.5 or something like that in the Bay Area last week, and it was interesting to read, on Twitter, what people were feeling/seeing/doing. Could be helpful.

For a while now, some people I respect very much have been raving about Twitter. I've looked into it some and while I "get" the technology, I just don't "get" why anyone would want to use it.
If possible, please periodically keep us updated on your use of Twitter, Amy. My first question, of many is: What about Twitter is advantageous over me following the blogs I like to follow, the latter of which can contain photos & videos and be of any length?
I dont see the point in it, most lives are too boring to update every hour or so, mine included.
Plus I'd probably get arrested by the end of the night if I started posting my random thoughts online
lujlp at April 4, 2009 7:17 PM
Oh god, not you too. When will the horror end?
