I got Popular Science through one of your links. It was a great deal.

Worth every penny and less. Jus' sayin'. It's entirely possible that a two year subscription can't be fulfilled at any price... In this regard, I have a wager cooking with Cosh for another famous New York publication.

Just saw the front page of the LA Times today. Huge-ass color picture, a swimming pool's worth of deep, richly-hued inks on top of a worthless headine: "Requiem for a King". No insight. No irony. No information.... Just a decades-old effort on the part of a brainless newsroom to convey a sense of shared experience with the reader. Those fuckers are incapable of breaking the news in a journalistic sense; they insist on breaking it with the hesitating, apologetic tone of a none-too-close uncle phoning to report the death of a parent. They're hideous.
Wanna know what I like about about the death of mainstream media? EVERYTHING.
At this hour there's a fire in LA, with a mushroom cloud of smoke towering over my neighborhood. LAFIRE on twitter tells me everything I wanna know. Paglia today:
| I detest the partisan
| machinations that have become
| standard in Northeastern news
| management and that are
| detectable in editorial
| decisions at major metropolitan
| newspapers nationwide. It's why
| I, like a host of others, have
| shifted my news gathering to the
| Web.

And by the way, LAFIRE was my first & correct guess about where to find out what was happening in my neighborhood in this very moment. We need print news for what, exactly?

And how long has it been since the LAT or Esquire gave you a sincere chuckle?
