Jill The Plumber
Small business owner Catherine Bragg kicks some pandering legislative ass on Obamacare:
She makes a great point about the limited number of insurance companies available to her. This is the kind of problem these idiots should be solving. Free up the free market, and see what competition does to health insurance prices.

Love it. Love it. Love it.
I just LOVE women like this!!! Give 'em hell, Jill! Ha!

Yes. Freeing up the market will fix the limited number of insurance companies. That's why we have so many more airline companies now. And so many large media companies. That's exactly how that works.
And..
"90% of the businesses in the United States help support this financial system that we have in place.." um, don't they all help support this financial system?
And...1300 insurance companies and only six in California? really? I believe there are only six in California, but I want to move to the state that must have like 900.

Did she say 6 ins companies in CA or 6 that as a small business owner she was leagally able to do business with?
lujlp at September 5, 2009 10:00 AM
She said 6 that she could do business with.

Actually, in case you haven't noticed, airlines are one of the most competitive industries in the world right now ... flying is surprisingly affordable.

It's not surprising that flying is affordable, because people will usually buy based only on price, but service is at an incredibly low level.

Cathrine being interviewed (link below). She also discusses catastrophic health policies towards the end (something she said she had forgot to mention because she had gotten so excited during her town hall speech).

Deductibles would be nice but I also agree with Franken that we need more oversight both of insurance companies and the healthcare industry itself. Let's start hitting the abuses that are raising costs. Competition amongst insurers would help but not entirely. Not if health care providers aren't also called to account for price gouging.
