I See Media Coverage
This is a moved-up post. Thanks so much for all the tips. If anyone has any more, please post them here, or e-mail me. I have to send in the list on Wednesday.
My book, I SEE RUDE PEOPLE: One woman's battle to beat some manners into impolite society, is coming out November 27, and I need to give the publicity people a list of media outlets and influential bloggers to send my book to.
If you have suggestions, I would be most grateful. (Addresses and e-mail addresses to go with would be especially helpful, but aren't necessary.)
And a note: There are limited review copies, so I can't just blanket the universe, plus I need people to actually buy my book for it to do well, so I can write the next one!
P.S. For anyone else who has a book for sale, or will have, my agent, who's terrific, and whose opinion I greatly respect, e-mailed me yesterday and mentioned two books on publicity: Jacqueline Deval's Publicize Your Book (Updated): An Insider's Guide to Getting Your Book the Attention It Deserves, and Lissa Warren's The Savvy Author's Guide to Book Publicity
. I'm getting both.

I would try to contact some of the conservative ladies that write for townhall.com.

My top three would be Phyllis Schafly, Rebecca Hagelin and Janice Shaw Crouse.
You could also try Star Parker, Kathryn Lopez,
Carol PlattLiebau and Jillian Bandes.
If you click on any of their articles on townhall.com I believe they all have their e-mail addresses.
We all dislike rude people, the reason I give a listing of women is this seems like a topic that more women columnists would likely engage in.
David M. at September 1, 2009 7:31 AM
Oh! You could try Dr. Laura. I know she has Dr. Laura's reading corner in the top left part of her web page you can click on.
I have ordered two or three books off her list their.
Oh, correction Carol Platt Liebau.

Maybe try Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld, which airs late night on the Fox channel. Barbara Oakley was on the show promoting her book.
Asha Mathew at September 1, 2009 7:51 AM
Oh, I forgot Mike Adams at townhall.com.
He writes about politeness and manners in some of his articles. He has a pretty funny article in todays column.

I just pre-ordered your book the other day.
Around here, RJ Julia Booksellers would be the one. I believe I gave you their website on another post, but here it is again: http://www.rjjulia.com/
They're an independent bookseller in very tony Madison CT, but they do some GREAT pr for books they sell, you should check them out. And they ask you to do a booksigning, you can stay at my place, if you want. Bring Lucy, the girls would love it! o.O
Flynne at September 1, 2009 9:05 AM
IF they ask you...
sheesh.
Flynne at September 1, 2009 9:06 AM
Outwrite Bookstore in Atlanta might be a good option. www.outwritebooks.com Excellent location, very popular with a diverse clientele, and they've always got an interesting and well-curated selection of books.
CB at September 1, 2009 10:45 AM
Amy, is the book going to be available on the Kindle?
MonicaP at September 1, 2009 10:55 AM
Well, of course Glenn Reynolds is an obvious choice. Somebody from the Volokh Conspiracy would be interested (I'm not sure who would be the best choice). John Hawkins or Melissa Clouthier from Right Wing News. Maybe one of the Samizdata guys. It's a shame that Pat Santy is not still blogging; this would be right up her alley.

You might try Elizabeth Scalia at:
http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/theanchoress/
It's a (very) Catholic blog, but she's lavished praise on Oriana Fallaci & other godless authors, and the subject matter of your book would fit in.

It should be, and I want it enabled for the blind. Told somebody that -- I think you can make it happen for your individual book.

Dr. Laura seems to like you, has a huge fan base, and talks frequently about the loss of manners and respect in society. It would probably be good for your book if it could make her "The Reading Corner" page.

Amy:
I see I'm not the only one with Townhall.com on the mind. I think you should send a copy to Townhall's Dennis Prager.
You might also want to consider radio host Michael Savage, Randy Cohen, the "Ethicist" at the New York Times, and Michael Blowhard, former book industry guy, over at 2blowhards.com.

Thanks - these are great suggestions.

And thanks, Flynne, that's so sweet!
Amy Alkon at September 4, 2009 8:05 PM
Have you considered Milt Rosenberg's Extension 720 from WGNRadio.com? Milt routinely laments the coarsening of American culture, and your book sounds like it would fit in well. Extension 720 is one of the few smart talk shows still on radio. It's probably worth a shot.

Amy,
Do you like seafood? If you travel to CT, ask Flynne to take you to Constantine's in Niantic (town of East Lyme, like the tick). Best scallops I ever had came from Stonington Bay.
And if you have time, check out the views from the hills above the CT river.
Also, why not ask Discover / Wired / Seed / New Scientist to review it? Do you have a nerd constituency?
