"Multicultural Dogma Fetters Advancement"
Sowell gets it -- on IBD:
Multiculturalism enshrines the sins and grievances approach -- and paints the poor into a corner, where they can nurse their resentments, instead of advancing their skills and their prospects. The beneficiaries are politicians and race hustlers.

Agreed.

I dunno... does victim identity politics automatically happen in a multricultural society?

Nicole I think that Sowell distinguishes between a racially / ethnically diverse society and one that practices Multiculturalism.
He's written a lot on successful examples of racial integration in Asia, Central/South America and the US. So he's not a pessimist in this regard.
I think that he recognizes Multiculturalism as a racist system. That its premises and ambitions are explicitly racist.
Skepticism towards MC doesn't seem to be uncommon among Black intellectuals, even the ones who promote a Black identity.

Jeremiah Wright spent decades preaching to poor blacks that everything was Whitey's fault. They loved it. The more hateful the sermon, the more they cheered. They gave him their money. Now he's retired to a $ 1.6 million, 10000 square foot home in a gated community that's 93% white and 2% black:

Ooops, didn't see the link in the original article. Thanks Jack.

Diversity in America is perverted by the politically correct. You do NOT automatically amount to something because of your background or skin color. The best examples of progress are in performance-monitored venues like sports, where, for instance, 70% of NFL players are black, but no one is insane enough to suggest that they must match the community they represent.
Commonality of purpose, not diversity, is what marks a successful team.

I kinda DO wish NFL players and other sports team members were actually from the cities they played for.
I mean would the Olympics be as cool if we traded players with other countries, and the country that had the most money automatically won because they could hire the best? The Olympics are cool because its OUR people competing.

"would the Olympics be as cool if we traded players with other countries"
Some countries do this. Giving citizenship to a top athlete, so that they can hire the athlete to compete for the country.
The Olympics have become such a huge money-machine that they are - imho - on the brink of losing their magic. It's all about intellectual property, lawyers and extracting the last possible marketing penny from the victim...um...host country.
