HOPA They Keep Calling You That
Very fake looking post of very cute girl who appears to quit her job with signs on dry erase board -- and supposedly gets all tweaked that her boss accidentally let her overhear his call in which he called her a HOPA (a HOt Piece of Ass).
My father's advice, paraphrased: Worry when they stop calling you hot.
UPDATE: Boring reveal. Yes, it's a hoax.
Does she really know what "HOPA" means? Would she be surprised if her boss thought she was a Hopeless Plodding Ass?

Did anyone else read about the (I think jetblue) air attendant who quit in grand style this weekend? I haven't laughed so hard in months.
It's highly inappropriate and stupid of a boss to refer to any employee that way, to anyone, any place. His stupidity in doing so makes me doubt his abilities as a boss in general.
Anyway, anyone can quit any job at any time for any reason that seems worth it to them. Can't say I'd quit in this economy, but hey.

Looked fake to me, too. What kind of idiot would quit her job without a backup?
NicoleK at August 11, 2010 5:41 AM
Oh, stop it. That was hilarious. Especially the fake tears at missing her co-workers.
And the JetBlue guy is my hero.
MonicaP at August 11, 2010 6:10 AM
It is quite possible that she had intended to quit anyway and just took the opportunity to try to do something "cute". Considering the amount of time to set up the set of pictures (including the change of outfits at the end), create the email (including choosing the best poses), get it into the office system so that she could send it to everyone in the group, she probably spent some time at it. If it is not a hoax, then she knew she was going to quit well in advance.

That's what I thought when I saw that.

Someone young and hot who's not going to worry about that right now.
MonicaP at August 11, 2010 6:15 AM
It is a hoax. Go to the homepage today for the "follow-up". This resonates, bc so many of us either have, or have had, such shitty bosses. Would be fun if it were real. BTW, I don't think "Jenny" would have a problem getting a new job this even in this economy.
sheepmommy at August 11, 2010 6:18 AM
Too bad it's fake, but it's still really funny. I like to see people burn bridges with gusto.
MonicaP at August 11, 2010 6:27 AM
I've done it twice. Worked out fine both times.
brian at August 11, 2010 6:34 AM
I was bummed it was fake. That girl is full of WIN.
Ann at August 11, 2010 7:37 AM
If it's fake, good. Yeah, it was cute, but I foresee "creative" methods for quitting your job being the next big thing. The eye-rolling would give me a headache after a while.
Then again, it's better than expressing your job dissatisfaction with a handgun.

Amy,
Saw you at Vroman's. Don't worry; you're still hot! (Apologies to your BF)

P.S. You aren't, by any chance, the guy who told off Miss Huffypants, the journalist who was supposed to be there to report on me and my book, but blurted out something about how offended she was that I said people shouldn't bring children in the feral stage on planes, except when it's an emergency.
Amy Alkon at August 11, 2010 9:14 AM
That wasn't me. What ever happened with the interview she was supposed to do?
Tom at August 11, 2010 9:51 AM
Too bad it was a hoax, it was quite entertaining. But not sure how cool I'd be about a boss calling me a HOPA - corporate life is weird enough, that would just make it weirder.
Feebie at August 11, 2010 9:53 AM
I fell for it too. Hook, line and sinker :(
Gave you props on the blog when I updated this, Amy!

What kind of idiot would quit [a] job without a backup?
I did. I'd been looking, unsuccessfully. I just had to get out of the job I was in, and I thought that some of the interviews had been going fine until we got to "if we offered you the job, when could you start" question.
I gave notice that my last day would be the 30th (a Thursday). The week before, I had an interview. The potential boss hoped to make the decision on the 27th or 28th, and wondered when I could start. When I told her I could start on the 1st, she was shocked until I explained why. And sure enough, I got the job.
If I'd still had the old job, and needed to take the time to give notice, I wouldn't have gotten the new job.

She's not hot, she's young, big difference.
Norm at August 11, 2010 12:01 PM
If it turns out that guy didn't grab two beers and jump out of the plane, I'm going to start crying and just not stop.

I'll join ya.

> She's not hot, she's young, big difference.
While I see what you're getting at, often there isn't. Youth is a powerful –and often tragically overlooked– component of hot.

I am glad to see that AA has wised up, and is no longer taken in by youtube fraudsters, such as Breitbart.
I must say, you have to get up pretty early in the morning to sneak one past AA.
Bravo!

Like, wow. Passive-aggressive and condescending in one fell swoop. Ambitious! Props!
The weak comma corrupts the whole thing, though. If you need instruction on that, just ask around, and someone will help you tidy up.
Crid [CridComment at gmail] at August 11, 2010 6:36 PM
I wouldn't mind my boss THINKING I'm a HOPA, but I wouldn't want to hear him saying it out loud.
NicoleK at August 11, 2010 11:25 PM
Babaganoosh here and this was such a treat, boost out another one asap
