An Objective Look At The Glenn Beck Rally
A hysteria-free look by libertarian Nick Gillespie from reason.tv:
Never fear, the MSM is reporting the "thousands" in true lying form.

As I've said before, Glenn Beck is not my style, however, I was really excited to see this many Americans in one place celebrating being Americans. I think we needed the morale boost.
As far as the religious tone. Most people in this country identify themselves as having some type of religion. I think the freedom to practice religion in our country is amazing. It seems to me that this may not have been the reason for the attendance but certainly set the tone for the esprit de corps you see there. Good for them.

PS. The guys from Hillbuzz were at this rally. They have a post up about how everyone brought garbage bags and cleaned up after themselves (unlike, say, Obama's inauguration day).
I think decent-human-beings per capita went up exponentially in Washington DC over the weekend.

I am for anything that balances federal revenues from, and spending in, Red Ink States.
The Tea Party will never get us there.
Another band of jackanapes and poppinjays.
Though the pending Palin-Bachman 2012 ticket promises to be fun. I can't refudiate that.

I'm an atheist, but completely for freedom of speech, including religious speech. I was icked out by some commentators who were all wiggy about Beck talking religion on the Lincoln Memorial. Me? I'm completely grateful he can and, to me, Lincoln and the rest represent that freedom and others.

I can't refudiate that.
Refute or repudiate. Make up your mind.

The woman who identified herself as a black American brought tears to my eyes.
Marina at August 30, 2010 11:50 AM
I just didn't get this rally. I agree with Christopher Hitchens in that it was the "Waterworld of white self-pity ... large, moist, vague and undirected."

Beck isn't my cup of tea and all the Jesus references weren't either but I saw nor heard anything hateful from the program.
Compare what went on at the rally with the hatred coming from the official Left.
What bothers me more than anything else is the MSM's ongoing narrative that anything associated with the Tea Party (or a rally such as this) is racist because it's "almost only white people there". Really?! That makes it racist? The next time you attend a symphony or opera, look around and you'll see "almost only white people there". Is this a racist event too?!? Then go to a concert at the Apollo theater in NYC. Look around and you'll see "almost only black people there". Would you even dare to think that it was a racist event?!?

"I think the freedom to practice religion in our country is amazing."
-- is that freedom to practice religion, or freedom to practice Christianity you're in favor of? Because there's this Islamic community center in NY looking to raise funds, if you're interested....
franko at August 30, 2010 11:07 PM
All religions were represented: Protestant AND Catholic!
Katie at August 31, 2010 2:24 PM
Islam isnt a religion franko.
But while were on the subject of freedom of religion franko, what are your thought on the revised LDS sect in the AZ/UT boarder towns with the ranch in TX and theor practice of marrying children off to old men and throwing out the majority of boys so there is less comitition for multipule wives
